a big disapointment!
The only good thing about this hotel are the staff!, the room was very basic for a 4 star hotel, only drinks on the bar-fridge were 2 small bottles of water.the furniture needed a face-lift, the tv had to be changed as it was not working, I must state that the maintenance man was quick to change the tv for another one.The hotel meals have a lot to be desired, on Friday evening, it was either fish or pork chops.Saturday it was turkey breasts in a pepper sauce or fish cakes again.Breakfast was basic.I would not recommend this hotel. it really needs a face-lift! and they should dismiss the cook!

Not a 4-star
We stayed at the Perla Marina for 2-weeks in April. On arrival I was impressed with the reception area. The staff I found friendly and helpful. This in my opinion is where the 4-star rating ends. We booked a room with a sea view. The room I thought was smaller than average. For those who may like a mini-bar, well, there wasn't one. The safe in the room needed a key to lock it. Not sure if you had to pay for this option as I never used that facility. The plaster on the walls were peeling off.The bath/shower room is the old fashioned style. Curtains around the bath and a hand held shower hose. The first night we found there was no water pressure, but the next day the maintenance man fixed the problem. We then discovered an infestation of ants in the bath room. The same maintenance man came back the next day to spray the room. Whatever spray he used the smell was overpowering for two days and there was no ventilation in the bathroom. Three days later the ants were back but not as bad as the first time. We decided not to bring it to the attention of the hotel because we didn't want to put up with the smell from that ant spray againBreakfast was in a large hall. The drinks were one end and the food was at the other end of the hall so we all had to march up and down like soldiers to choose our breakfast items. The choice for breakfast was very limited and the food was dried up and just warm not hot.The location was good, on the beach and about a 15 minute walk into the heart of the town. With the exception of the reception area the rest of the hotel I would class not much more than a 2-star, but that's from my experience of other hotels and only my opinion. As for the staff I have no complaints, they were all friendly and helpful.

Great staff, but not quite a 4 star hotel
The Perla Marina overlooks Torrecilla Beach which, like most beaches in the area, is a dark sand and pebble mixture. The staff in the hotel are welcoming and friendly and the reception area looks quite classy. The room we stayed in overlooked the beach (ask for this as the road at leading up to the hotel isn't a great view - albeit relatively tidy and with a garden area across from reception). The room itself was clean, kept clean all week, and the bathroom free from mould. However I didn't think it was 4 star, more akin to 3 star. The air conditioning/heating wasn't needed but if it was I believe you would have to ask reception to activate it.The beds were very hard.Breakfast was a buffet with ham (salty), cheese, rolls and breads, cakes, croissants, some fruit (apples, pears and bananas for example) some tinned fruit (not mixed but either pineapple or pears in syrup). Some yoghurts were available but not many, so you had to there early if you wanted one.Hot breakfasts were included in the buffet and consisted of fried or hard boiled eggs, sausages (savaloy like), fried bacon (streaky in style), beans and tomatoes. The toasting machine was never set up properly, so we often stood over it, passing the toast through as many as 3 times before it became properly toasted.Hot water and coffee of various types could be selected from a machine, water and orange/grapefruit juice was out of another machine. The orange juice was very sweet. There were 3 different types of tea bag, and all of them were poor quality and taste - we bought orange juice and Tetley tea bags from the local supermarket. It would have been nice if the staff had asked us for tea or coffee as we entered the breakfast room and brought this to your table. There wasn't many small table for breakfast, most were long and laid (napkin and knife and fork) for at least 8 people.Being a buffet breakfast meant you had to plan your process for breakfast to avoid going backwards and forwards for toast, hot water, and breakfast itself. The price of the hotel was quite reasonable.

Beautiful location
This hotel has a wonderful location right on the beach with most rooms having sea views. We stayed there in mid March and so the place was quiet. The public areas were pleasant but the bedrooms were in need of "refreshing". Breakfast was uninspiring and the orange fruit juice was of poor quality and sickly sweet. The Receptionist did what was required of him but, sadly, did not make any effort to be friendly or welcoming. The hotel, however, offered very good value for money at this time of year.

Nice hotel - just not sure about the food . . .
We enjoyed a last-minute 5-day break here and everything was fine - the staff were welcoming and helpful - although the Hotel itself seemed just a little "tired" - but clean and comfortable throughout.Although it's right on the seafront, be aware it's on the westerly edge of Nerja, so a bit of a gentle stroll into town - and the general surroundings weren't as attractive as Burrianna Beach, which we discovered later in our stay on the far-other side of town. What threw us completely was the "restaurant" - a strange semi-basement room with no view whatsover, brightly lit and with a "canteen" style table layout. Maybe our expectations were too high and this dining style might be normal for this neck of the woods, and once we came to terms with the lack of intimacy and any thought of a romantic dinner a deux, the simple, unimaginative buffet each night provided decent subsistence-style fodder. (As the week went on we were even able to laugh at our over-ambitious request for a wine list on our first night, which was clearly unfulfillable!) It could have been worse however - because at least the tables were dressed with real linen tablecloths/napkins and the service was professional and friendly.Have to also mention the surprise benefit of the astounding Easter religious parades through the town PLUS being only 90 minutes drive from the Sierra Nevada - so on impulse, we were able to go snow-skiing for a day, with a local guide taking care of everything, including Hotel pick-up - a genuine ski and sea experience which we also enjoyed.
