Very nice, very comfortable
I was only here for a 1 night stay but was very happy with it. The room was very comfortable and clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. The ceiling is unusually high as well, don't think I've experienced it in any other hotel! The only criticism I have is that it is overpriced. Also, a flatscreen tv would be better than the tiny CRT tv they have in the room.

Not again
I promised never to go back but I did for a midweek three night break with my wife. Check-in was fine and efficient and we were given a suite, though we booked a double. No problem but there was a fusty smell on entering. The room was comfortable, spacious, and clean. There was poor TV reception. Meals were disappointing. Breakfast each morning had barely cooked bacon and sausages with overcooked puddings. Evening meals were just average and not very satisfying. We were never asked if the meals were OK, even when most of an evening meal was left on the plate. During meals loud music was played, which forced louder conversation and a disturbing atmosphere. At breakfast our final morning we were placed at a table which was below another table on a raised area. The people at that table were overlooking our table which was unsuitable. Overall the service was average with the exception of one female receptionist, who was very friendly and helpful. Our final night of sleep was disturbed until 4.20am when the noise, music and laughter ceased. There is no going back this time despite its excellent location and layout.

Unbelievable!
I just cannot believe the last review, it is so unfair, I stayed at the Clarion 10th May - staff helpfull free upgrade lovely room to the front of the hotel - great breakfast great all round value! good experience from booking direct with the hotel to leaving.

Disappointment
Upon arriving at the Clarion on 5th of May, I was in the frame of mind for some down time and relaxing with my wife. First impression from outside it looked beautiful, once checked in we where taken to our room, stright away I felt unsettled as it was the creepiest room which had slight light which came from the feature of a small 10 by 10 window to look from, They very kindly moved me and my wife with no extra cost which I was pleased about, I went on to find out that the room prior was in the original building which was used for the criminaly insane. My Trip was to catch up with family I hadnt seen in 5 years to which we dined in the resturant another disappointment as waited over 15 mins for drinks order, the atmospher was like going through security which runined my whole expercience as it just got from bad to worse, breakfast no better overall a very disappointing trip. I myself have been lucky to travel all corners of the globe and stayed in many places big and small and feel that this place has been the biggest let down for me by far.

A home from home
Rooms are spacious, a real home from home. Facilities at hotel are excellent, only negative is that it's too big, we stayed here with our parents for a family occasion, while we were fine my parents got lost a few times in the numerous, long & identical corridors.
