Superb setting and excellent staff
Just returned from a one night dinner, bed, and breakfast package deal at the hotel with my wife. From arrival the staff were helpful and efficient. Excellent facilities in the Country Club.Gerard. Emilio, and Mariana were excellent in the Georgian restaurant and the food was well prepared and cooked. Breakfast choice was also superb with enough hot, cold, pastry, and healthy options to suit all tastes.The rooms are perhaps a little tired but there was evidence of a small army of maintenance staff sprucing the place up. To be honest this is to be expected in a venue of this age, history, and character. We had a ground floor room with patio in the Garden Lodge. The room was clean and well presented.The views are spectacular overlooking the valley.

Gone downhill in the last year
Bath might be the home of the British Bobsled team, but nothing in the area has gone down hill as fast as this hotel . What happened ? We have a work meeting annually and this year it is like a different place. Poor service, uninterested staff, wrong food, many rooms in need of repair. It might be a 4 star building (with significant investment) but the service is sub 2 star. Feels like it is about to shut down and if it carries on like this it will.

Good hotel in lovely setting but could be better
The Combe Grove Manor is a comfortable hotel in a lovely tranquil setting with lots of sports facilities. Standard rooms are comfortable although a little basic. If you are expecting a room in a country manor house you may be disappointed as the standard rooms are located in a separate annex. It does say this in the small print on the booking site (I booked though Superbreaks) but it is easy to miss. However the annex rooms are comfortable enough and are less than 50 mtrs from the main house. My standard bedroom was a decent size with a separate sofa and decent quality furnishings. The bathroom did look a little tired (dripping taps and a broken extractor fan) but was clean and functional. The door to the rooms opens directly to the outside (Motel style). The room was equipped with a flat screen TV, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. It did lack an in room safe and there was no fridge or mini-bar which I felt was quite surprising for a 4 star hotel. I found food in the hotel to be good quality, I eat breakfast in the main restaurant which was prepared with good quality ingredients. Choice was however somewhat limited, with only 1 type of bread roll and a small amount of cold choices. The cooked English breakfast however, was excellent. There were times though when some items ran out and were slow to be replenished. This was especially the case after 9am when the room is at its busiest. I think this was due to a rush of clients as the buffet closes at 9:30 which I think is a little early for a tourist hotel. I eat dinner in the main restaurant one evening where there is a good a la carte menu and on another evening I eat in the basement bar area where there is a grill menu that is cheaper but still good quality. As the hotel is out of town in a relatively remote area it¿¿¿s it important that it has a good restaurant and the Combe Grove Manor did not disappoint. There is a nice bar in the basement with a good choice of drinks, if a little pricey. It had a good atmosphere. The hotel has extensive grounds with some stunning views. Although nice, some of the paths around the hotel were inaccessible and so the walks were not as extensive as they could have been. There are also some nice ponds and fountains but these seem to be mainly overgrown with algae and need a good clean out. There are extensive sports facilities at the site which looked good but I did not use any and so could not comment on their quality. Overall I found this to be a good hotel but it could be excellent if some of the details listed above could be sorted. Despite some niggles I would recommend this hotel for a short break to the Bath area.

After wedding get away!
we had a perfect 3 days at the Combe Grove Manor Hotel. We were looking for somewhere we could relax totally with decent gym equipment, a pool, good food and pretty surroundings. We found all of this here. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food delicious and the spa wonderfully relaxing. The room was comfortable and clean & I had one of the best massages I have ever had here too! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel. We barely left it during our stay.....

Best hotel we have stayed in
Everything was perfect from start to finish and we wish we could have stayed for more than two nights. The setting was so peaceful yet convenient for the centre of Bath. The facilities were ideal for us as we use the gym and swim, I particularly enjoyed the outdoor pool. We stayed in the annex and loved the terrace with the views over the countryside. The bed was comfortable the room was spacious and immaculately clean and well maintained.The breakfast was the best we had ever had in a hotel or restaurant and we are still craving the teas that were served each morning. The food selection was impressive and our requirements for cooked breakfast followed to the letter.As you can tell we were very happy with the hotel, but for us the icing on the cake was the staff. Every single member of the team there were so friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble, We loved the friendly banter of one of the stewards in the restaurant in particular as she made everyone so welcome, was smiling and obviously enjoying her job and was just naturally a people person.We had staff giving us a friendly wave whenever they saw us walking around the grounds and everyone seemed to be happy to be working there. Exceptional. I spend most of my working week in hotels around the country and have done so for the last four years. The Coombe Grove Manor is the best I have ever experienced and I have high expectations.We are telling our family and friends about this wonderful hotel and as soon as we can we will be back for another visit.
