Firstly, If you are offered room 27 , RUN AWAY or like i did, ask to be moved. Quite simply it stinks, fags, sweat and god knows what. The staff were Very friendly and accommodating and we were moved to another room immediately. Yes the rooms are tired and dated but they try, and when you look around Nice you will realize that you actually get some decent bang for your bucks at Locarno.The breakfast is no big deal but actually compares favourably with any of the local Boulangeries Patisseries for a continental. You will NOT find an egg bacon fry up "caff" locally if that is your wont.Old Town is a fair walk, but it is not arduous and we found that most of the eateries are similar Just look at which are the busiest and that is a very good pointer to quality and value for moneyFor a night on the booze then bar Akathor is fine with a somewhat uninspiring but somehow mesmerizing live guitarist/vocalist (who is probably paid in pints), and a good selection of draught beers and to the wife's delight a "Piscine" of white wine (a small goldfish bowl!) for 6 Euros in Happy Hour (5.30- 9.30pm) and little snacks (tapas) at 3.80 Euros just to help the booze go down, before you eat seriously Yes there are far more upmarket restaurants and bars but if you just want a good night and good company with friendly service (not one bad report) then revel in the undoubted tourist mecca of Old Town. For serious good quality take a trip to Antibes, for serious Rip Off visit Cannes and for serious traffic attempt Saint Tropez..(catch the train!). Oh and if you hire a car then take out the additional fully comp insurance, for peace of mind i would have hated to risk a 1200 Euro deposit if i hadn't taken the option, believe me I have seen better driving in Rome!!! and Parking is impossible. The Locarno only has 8 places in an underground car park and you either drive round all night looking for a space, which will be 6 inches longer than your car, or as i did you use a Public Car Park (the Palmeria) at 17 Euros a night, but at least you know it will not be shunted front and back by other people trying to park.Sounds grim but believe me if you enter into the spirit you will have a great time. Never be afraid to ask and try out schoolboy french all the time it breaks the ice and people suddenly become very helpful. Hope this gives a positive message, just remember it is an adventure!!

i was booking a room a bit late up to a weekend and most were all ready sold out so i paniced and got this one for 154 euro for 4 nights, so my expectations were pretty low.it is a bit of a hike from the city center, but not to bad and its easy to get a bus or have a nice strool down the promenade.but i was very surprised. the room was big and so was the bath room, my room had a quite large wardrobe with a safe.for this price it is a very good deal but i can see that it can go up to 105 euro pr night for a single room and i think that is a bit over the top.the interior is very dated. well keept but dated.

Taking an easy jet bargain holiday, the hotel selected exceeded my expectations. well located for bus travel from the airport, the staff were welcoming and dealt with English questioning adequately. The room had a rustic charm, balcony & en suite with re-equipped plumbing. Best of all the hotel was heated during a rather windy/overcast cool weather spell. Breakfasts simple but adequate and the price modest compared to eating out.One should mention the Nice one euro bus fare system - the greatest bargain since one could go on the 400 bus for an hour and 10 minutes to Vance just for the equivalent of 90 pence, due to city subsidies to reduce traffic congestion by encouraging the use of public transport

We stayed 4 nights during February 2013 & found the hotel to be very well situated - only one easy bus ride from the train station & a short walk to La Promenade Anglais & the old city. There is a plethora of cafes & shops all around.We had one hiccup - our shower the first evening was only tepid at best. As it was late, we didn't bring this up until the next morning. The reception staff sent up a handyman, who told us the water was not cold. My husband had to go downstairs with him to demonstrate the difference between the very hot water in the lobby WC, and the comparatively cold shower in our room. After this, the handyman agreed, and when we asked the reception staff for a new room, we got another (better) room which thankfully did have lovely hot water.Both rooms we stayed in were well appointed and comfortable, with balconies. Nice views, but no sea views. The continental breakfast in the cafe was nice & the service was good,We would happily stay here again.

My wife and I booked this hotel through booking.com. We had just left a hotel in Nimes that was a 4 star that was amazing, so we figured we could go to a 3 star and still be fine. Boy, were we wrong.We had booked a parking space and when we arrived, they told us we had to go around the block and they would meet us at the garage door. There was just enough room to park our car and they asked us for the keys in case they had to move it.There was only enough room in the elevator for me and some of our luggage, so I had to go up to our room and my wife had to wait for the elevator to come back down before she could bring the rest of our luggage up.The door to our room almost wouldn't close. The bed was like sleeping on a bed of rocks. The bathroom was clean, but the fixtures were leaky. We could hear all the "street business" going on from our room. The room smelled musty.I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
