We really enjoyed our stay
We should spent the May bank holiday in this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay very child friendly, good bags on arrival, pet farm and friendly staff all made our stay a good one. Bistro & Bar Service was a bit chaotic a room on the small side but given the weekend that was in it the hotel was quite busy so perhaps understandable. Overall a great weekend and I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Good Family Hotel, great facilities .. a few minor flaws
I stayed here with my wife and two young boys. Overall we had a great time. I'm not the biggest fan of Kilkenny (for families, its great for partying) but this place made the trip a lot better. Also its a great base to explore some lovely surrounding countryside, most notably the fabulous Inistioge ... We did a family weekend package including a dinner and visit to Nicholas Mosse for lunch. The room was a pretty standard family room with 3 good beds (351). We slept well. The bath/shower was disappointing, the space at the shower is too small and I had to run around to get wet in the very low pressure shower .. It was so bad we ended up showering in the spa (because we were using the pool anyway) ... Food wise - dinner was pretty good for this type of restaurant on the first night. I enjoyed a lovely seafood starter of potted prawns and smoked salmon followed by a main of seabass... I was very disappointed with the carvery in the bar the next day - a lump of greasy fatty lamb with undercooked chips. Breakfast is pretty standard for this class of hotel. Service overall was excellent; we could not fault it from any stage in our stay. The facilities of the hotel are very good - it has a lovely indoor pool with outdoor heated relaxing mini pool (a bit like like a big jacuzzi) ... there's also a really cool addition of a mini petting farm around the back (sheep, goats, Llama, Cows, Pigs, horses, various fowl and some smaller rabbits and hamsters) ... which the kids loved. Overall it is good value ... it doesn't deserve the tripadvisor rating "very good" but nor did it deserve "average" ... so I gave it 4 stars as the fairer rating of the two that it falls between.

Lovely family weekend
Two super meals, all the swimming we could wish for, close enough to Kilkenny for a longish walk on a fine day and lovely staff who were very helpful and kind, especially to our youngest who got herself locked in a loo. The farm on the grounds was a big attraction and needless to say getting to hold baby guinea pigs, rabbits etc made their weekend. There was a lot going on in the hotel (weddings & communions) but we didn't really notice.

A let down
I love to swim so it was the pool that made it for me on a good note. I/We have stayed in there sister hotel in Co Clare and there they know how to treat a guest!! Maybe they could share there knowledge!?!The Hotel lacked any sort of atmosphere from the onset. Arrived and the reception just wanted our credit card details, bing bang bong there's your room cards! That was it.... three days we were there and no one asked us anything!?! Even on leaving it was, here's your bill... by now! It felt more like a Premiere Inn then a four star hotel. I travel for a living and therefore felt as if I could of been staying in any normal road side hotel/motel anywhere. Newpark is outside Kilkenny town, so a 15 minute walk is required. The Spa area was a basic pool, saunas and dip pools. On my first entry to the place I asked politely for a towel, they wanted me to purchase a hat, I stated I had no money on me it was in my room, so they charged to my room ¿¿¿3. Then I entered the changing room and changed into my swimming gear to find out I needed a ¿¿¿1 for the locker?!? Why didn't they tell me that was the case, I had only told them I had no cash on me. They didn't care.Main restaurant was closed, so we ate in the Bar, the food was average to below, nothing to write home about. Breakfast is a self service set up, the hot food is precooked and in large cauldrons, so the bacon was like leather and dry and the eggs were cold (scrambled), you had to make your own toast but get this, they did get you tea or coffee, why bother cause you didn't bother getting anything else and quite frankly we went elsewhere for breakfast on our last morning as I just couldn't face it.What a pity. Wont ever be back.

unsatisfactory
I stayed here with my husband and 3 kids aged 9, 5 and 4 for 3 nights over the easter break. We decided to stay at the Newpark Hotel as they had a kids club and seemed to have lots for them to do over the weekend.....The first night of our stay we went to the kids club which was allocated on the second floor of the hotel, it was quite difficult to pick out the leaders of the kids club as they had no uniform or name badge or t-shirts that gave any indication as to who they were. The kids sat down and started to do some painting at 4 small tables with quite a number of children...there must have been 40 or more children in one small room needless to say my youngest child wouldn't stay, as it was very busy and intimidating......the mornings were the same art or art or art.........the first evening i was present during the dvd watching and i have to say how anyone heard what was going on i have no idea...some kids were kicking ball and others were walking around...brought kids out early.....the egg hunt on sunday morning was very well organised and the kids did enjoy this ....on the second evening i brought all 3 kids up to the club to see if anything different was going on i got a phone call after half an hour to say that the 4 year old was looking for me so i went up and got him.....going back to the room he told me that he had been down to the bedroom looking for me and i wasn't there .....i was confused so before i took his word for it i asked my daughter of 9 if she could throw any light on the subject and she proceeded to tell me that she seen him coming back in to the club..to say i was mad was an understatement.........i mentioned it to one of the girls who was in charge and she told me she didn't know anything about it which is untrue because my daughter told me she told her......she also never mentioned this to management when they had there meeting the following morning.....my little fella would have to come down a long flight of stairs and back up again and he could have quiet easily left the hotel building which isn't far off the main road.......i met with management the following morning to express my concern and frustration he informed me that the kids club door should have been locked and that they had over 100 kids in the hotel that night...well my answer was "get more staff" 3 girls isn't enough.I also mentioned my concern about staff not been recognisable to adults never mind children...he said that was something they would rectify...i suggested bright pink or green t-shirts with kids club on them would be sufficient its not rocket science..........he apologised and asked me to let the kids attend on the monday night and he guaranteed me things would be better....with some reluctance i did and yes the door was been locked...not much else had changed though.....I do want to acknowledge the chef and kitchen staff as the meals we had were excellent, having worked in the hotel industry i know its not easy to please all the people all of the time and therefore am not one to complain very often but when it comes to kids clubs and the security of my children i don't do short cuts......we don't get to holiday often and when we do its important we all have a good time especially the kids...if the kids are happy, mummy and daddy are happy.....the general manager phoned my husband the following week and told my husband he would be looking into matters and would both email and post a letter in regard to our complaint up to today we have received neither.
