Good place
Nice and clean rooms, good location, very close to promenade and sea, and to all other main places in the city. Staff at reception can (according to the paper hanging on the deck :)) speak several languages. Fair prices. Suits ok if you stay for couple of nights.

March 2013
For guests arriving via Nice Airport, then you'll be pleased to know that bus route 98 (4 Euro per person) stops outside the hotel, the stop is a short walk for the return trip. The hotel location is perfect, across the road for the coast line, you're on the edge of the main shopping area, and at the edge of the 'Old Town' with it's narrow streets and many restaurants, and the main railway station is only 15 minutes walk away (Cannes 30 minutes / Monaco 20 minute train ride). The hotel is investing heavily in refurbishing the rooms, our room had just been completed and was brilliant. The hotel did have WIFI, but on a number of days there was no connection - but that was a minor fault. In the bedroom we had a pleasant balcony view, with table and chairs, decent sized TV - not that we were in much to watch it, fridge, hair dryer and a safe, comfortable double bed, and plenty of storage.Bathroom was always kept clean and well stocked with fresh towels, it had a good shower with a strong steady water pressure.Breakfast was what you'd expect on the Continent, breads, cheese, cold meats, fruit salad, scrambled egg and sausage (Frankfurter style), fruit juice and coffee - enough to set you up for the morning. The staff were always friendly, spoke English, although I did my best to speak French as much as possible. This is a hotel, that if I were to return to Nice, would certainly use again.Nice as a city, is having a massive amount of investment, the railway station is going through redevelopment, and the Jardin Albert is also getting redeveloped - new walkways and sculptures. It's a city you generally feel safe in, there's plenty of Police around, the locals are friendly, and mainly understand my broken French, and speak English, but as with any City, just watch out for the opportunistic pick-pocket.

Boarding House not Hotel
There is nothing to recommend this hotel. Major construction work within the hotel renders it completely unsuitable and unsafe for guests. Builders start at 7.45 am and are still banging and drilling after 8 pm. Two complete floors are taken out. We emailed hotel 2 days before arrival to ask for a nice room and there was no mention of building work. When I asked the receptionist who replied to me why we had not been advised of this she said it had not been going on when I wrote! However, it is very obvious that this construction work has been going on for a long time. Fire doors are jammed open making the hotel unsafe, workmen use the only lift to transport building materials so guests cannot use the lift. Everywhere is filthy with dust.Hotel has no facilities at all except a small breakfast room. When we stayed there was no restaurant, or lounge or bar. Our bedroom was very small and outdated, the bathroom was tiny with half a bath and shower over which was almost impossible to get in and out of. The location is good for the old town but there are others equally well located. For information purposes the Jardin Albert 1er opposite is being totally renovated so there are no views of green park land, only of another building site. There is a night club next door and under the hotel which plays very loud music on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights until 2 am. Hotel bedrooms are not soundproofed. The road is directly outside the rooms so the hotel is noisy from traffic. The picture of the outside of the hotel is deceiving, it implies that the whole building is the hotel, it is not. We would not give this hotel any stars, never mind 3! Go at your peril. If you must go at least wait until the construction is finished. This report relates to a stay at beginning of March 2013.

Clean, comfortable and a great location
We had a great experience here! It is a block from the beach and the start of old town. Easy walk to everything including the train station. (20 min train ride to Monaco, 45 to Italy!) The room was small, simple but clean and comfortable which is all I really need. The view was of the park next door, which would have been great but, since we went off season, the city is doing some maintenance and they were working on it the whole time. My only complaint is that there was construction the floor above us and we were not told about it. 8 am in the morning the hammering started! Generally it wasn't an issue for us because we were up early but if we had planned to sleep in it would have been annoying. Hopefully they will change that and notify people in the future. A couple days later there was a sign by the elevator so maybe that was a correction to an oversight.Lastly, I only thought the breakfast was ok. You can get a better breakfast for the money you spend at almost any cafe down the road.

Simple hotel with convenient location/view
Nice is a gem. The Albert 1er has great views and only 1.5 blocks from the beach. As far as a budget hotel goes this is a 3.5* for me. Simple rooms with very thin walls, and poorly run elevators but cheap beers in the lobby bar and delicious croissants at breakfast. Definitely recommended for a budget traveller.
