Goldthorn hotel
We stayed at the goldthorn at the end of april after a family party and I would like to say it was a nice stay but unfortunately I was not impressed with our stay. The room was very warm overnight even though the heating was turned off, all the doors between our room and reception made a very loud bang as they shut. The beds were uncomfy. The wifi didnt work in the room. If you open the window you needed 4 hands to close it! We went for breakfast in the morning where we had a cooked breakfast. Most of the breakfast was nice apart from the luke warm mushrooms and the rubbery eggs as they were sat under the heat lamps.On my walk back to the room through the maze of corridors, I noticed that on the stairwell it was covered in dust. This led me to check the room and this too was covered in dust.Overall I would say this was an average hotel which does need a lot of work doing to it.

Ruby wedding stay for 6
Focus hotel 2 night deal cost ¿¿168 for 2 nights all inclusive with the free evening bar.absolute bargain.rooms were fine,breakfast lovely ,staff very friendly.slight hiccup 2nd night when only ice cream and brownies were available after we had perused the menu.apparently the dessert maker didn't turn in.the manager very kindly refunded our dessert charges(2 courses only are included in the deal).we stayed Sunday and Monday nights and the hotel was very quiet so we couldn't comment on any noise aspects.the hotel is situated quite conveniently for the Black Country museum which was brilliant.Blackstock house is in walking distance and is lovely .we also drove into birmingham(30mins) and visited the jewellery quarter and museum and also the pen museum both of which we greatly enjoyed.the multi storey parking in the jewellery quarter was quite reasonable.All in all a great time and a great way for the 6 of us to celebrate a ruby wedding

Cramped Superior Rooms
We booked 2 superior rooms in this hotel paying ¿¿10 extra per day(per room) for two nights. We had requested 2 adjoining rooms but were informed incorrectly that Room 92 and Room 96 were opposite one another. In fact these rooms were 3 doors apart. In addition we were told that all rooms in the Business Centre were in superior category. Our rooms on the top floor had sloping ceiling and my wife kept banging her had getting in and out of bed (she is 5' 2" in height), and taking a shower standing was impossible. There was no shower curtain and that meant that you had to dry the floor afterwards.The clean fresh linen and towels were the plus points. We did not eat in this hotel so cannot comment on the quality and variety of food offered

Worst nights sleep ever
The bread and butter of any hotel should be the nights sleep and I had one of the worst sleeps ever. The bed was extremely uncomfortable with tiny little pillows. To make it worse the road noise and traffic came right into the room with the windows not reducing the noise in any way. The food was reasonable and staff friendly enough.Gym is extremely basic and dated with a low ceiling so not really worth using.
