Hem Hotel Amsterdam
My overall experience at this hotel was good. However, the hotel is in serious need of a make-over. Rooms need to be painted, and the carpet replaced. Because of this, I felt the hotel was over-priced.

DON'GO HERE
on arrival we were asked to pay again as we were told that HEM had CRASHED. WE WERE OVER OCCUPIED ,we had visitors at night ,MICE. Holiday spoilt . On checking out we got intouch with our bank legal departmen who have been very help ful. On asking reception why we had not been informed before our arrival we were told ,THERE WERE TOO MANY GUESTS TO GET INTOUCH. We didn't see that if anything who we did see looked as fed up as us. At this time of this review I am intouch with legal dept;of my bank. what I would like to know is ,Looking at the web sites ,is has been known for somtime HEM had gone bust,WHY DID'T THE SITE PICK THIS UP? Do they not vet the hotels?S &L TURNER

Overpriced, in the middle of nowhere, grungy
The room was clean, but the hotel overall was grungy and old... not what I expected for the price I paid. The food and drinks available on site are great and the staff is helpful, but the location leaves some to be desired.

So So Hotel Recently Bust and Reopened
Careful, if you have booked the HEM, apparently it went bust on April 12th. We were told "the good news" that our reservation was still valid... but that we had to pay again and claim the money back through credit card insurance.If you've already booked then this is your fate I'm afraid, if you are just looking to book now then you have no issues as the hotel IS open and working normally.Some of the reviews here are terrible but I really can't see any evidence of dirt or whatever, our rooms were spotless although quite Spartan. The bathroom was okay too, despite some of the things I've seen posted here.It is a little bit away from the centre, about 50 minutes on foot but only about 10-15 by tram. The are near the hotel is very residential and uninspiring, no problem if you have a car or if you don't mind not being able to dip in and out of your hotel like you would in a city centre location.The breakfast was outstanding in fairness. It is very close to Schipol though.There is a cafe but it is a bit grim and grotty, I'm sure it is fine but the whole place looks a little tired.Overall, I would have no worries about staying here, it is perfectly unremarkable. There are far better options in Amsterdam but this place is cheap and perfectly okay.

Went bust and we were expected to pay twice...
We eventually found this godforsaken dive after a long walk past a rat-infested canal and through a seventies shopping centre populated by roaming packs of ferile youths. Not the place you would want to walk alone (or at all, frankly).The hotel had gone bust since we booked our room, and we were asked to pay again for the same rooms. Taking a look around the grotty, dated reception area, and the lifeless, yet threatening surroundings, we decided to look elsewhere, and were really glad we did.The rooms may be fine - we never saw them - but on location alone, unless you absolutely have to be there, go somewhere else.
