Great Hotel
Spent a week in the hotel at the end of May, rooms are very clean and tidy. The pool is a little small but we went to the HTop Olympic hotel pool which is 5 minutes walk away. Evening entertainment was ok. My kids loved the mini disco hosted by Steffi, she was fantastic with the kids, the kids adored her. Friendly staff.

An enjoyable experience
We are still here on a weeks break and are having a relaxing stay. During the week we have taken the advantage of visiting the numerous sister hotels in both Calella and beyond and we can say that the Amiaka takes some beating with an exceptional restaurant and lounge. It feels like you are receiving 5 star treatment and not being given a budget deal. The staff are very attentive and although you need to choose the right time to eat, the tables are cleared promptly with a fresh table cloth each time. The food may be a little limited in terms of choice but it is excellent quality and sometimes we have chosen to have the salad starter twice when the main course is in to our liking. During your stay you will be asked for one of your guest cards and when enjoying a drink at other H Top hotels you will be asked for green card to guarentee the return of your glass but once you confirm your hotel they are happy to serve you.The pool area is adequate but can get a little cramped and the sun beds are in short supply so consider the beach bar where you can get concessions on sun beds and drinks. In all we have enjoyed the entire experience and would certainly recommend the Amaika for cleanliness, quality of food, level of service, complimentary bus service to local resorts and friendly attention to their guests.

Would visit Costa Brava again, but another hotel!
I travelled here with some family and friends at the end of May 2013 on a review for an upcoming show on the BBC, having reviewed hundreds of hotels for various travel magazines, I can say that the Amaika is below average for its four stars. The interior decor gives a nice ambiance to the hotel and when we checked in we were given our keys and directed to our rooms. Beware that this hotel charges extra for a safe (¿¿¿38 plus ¿¿¿10 returnable deposit) and extra for Wi-Fi which cost ¿¿¿18 for the week. The Wi-Fi is not brilliant either, and only one person can use it on one device at a time, it is their way of making you pay ¿¿¿18 per guest to use Wi-Fi.The rooms are very nice, but again more charges, ¿¿¿20 for a remote but this is returned at the end of your stay as long as you keep your receipt, but still, a steep price to pay for a remote that looked as if it cost about ¿¿¿2 and was about 15 years old.The cleaners enter the room daily to clean, I have to say they do a good job but I didn't like the fact that all of our clothes that was folded up was all thrown on the bedside chair when we arrived back to our room. There were great views from all of our balconies (we had 3 rooms in total). We were all-inclusive, and we found that the food was horrible, probably the worst food I have eaten to date. The food is NOT freshly cooked and is sat there being heated under a lamp for hours after it is cooked. There is little choice of food also, any meat that is served possessed more bone than meat. The bacon, pork and chicken were so small and bland that it made me and my family feel physically ill, so much so that we avoided eating at the hotel instead choosing to eat at other restaurants and McDonalds (I never thought anything could taste worse than that). If you wanted to take a drink outside to the poolside area (which was small), you were given a plastic glass for your drink, not that you can complain but its always good to mention. The bar staff spoke little English and most (not all) were rude and ignorant. They would ask what you would want, they would get it for you and rudely place it on the counter, it was as if they hated being there, I am sure many others in Spain would take their position and be very happy. The surrounding area of the hotel is nice, lots of bars, restaurants and shops. I found that a lot of people didn't speak a lot of English and you would have to help your point across with hand gestures so they would understand. The surrounding shops are good, but there are a few shops where you would be pestered by shop workers or owners to enter, have a look and buy something. This happened to me about four times and I quickly got agitated by it and got into a vocal altercation with an owner, nothing serious, I just ended up leaving the shop. The beach is lovely and I am sure if we went in peak times, it would be much more crowded and fun with lots more to do.The entertainment is the hotel was good to begin with. They done a bingo night along with a disco which was fun. They had flamingo dancers and Brazilan dancers but that was it, the rest of the nights were just discos and bingo, it was repetitive and it got very boring after a while. The hotel provides room service, and upon looking at the information book provided in rooms, it states it is 24 hours a day, this is not true, having called room service to order, I was told it does not start until 6PM. Keep an eye on BBC THREE for the upcoming show. I have left contact details below if you need any more information. All in all, I would give this hotel a 5.5/10 as the hotel itself is nice, the area is great, weather was very good but the hotel staff are mostly rude and arrogant, the food is horrid and the entertainment was repetitive.Contact: reviews.hotel@yahoo.co.uk

Extremely Impressed
Having checked the reviews on this hotel before travelling I was a little apprehensive but extremely impressed with it. Having been in the Travel Agency business for over 45 years I have stayed in many four and five star luxury hotels and the Amaika in my opinion deserves it'sfour stars. I just cannot get my head around some of the reviews as we found the staff very helpful and pleasant, the rooms were spacious clean and the food was excellent with a great choice, In fact my wife and I need to go on a diet since leaving the Amaika and we would certainly use this hotel again. It was central too and the beach was on the doorstep if you areinto beaches. All in all an excellent hotel and very reasonably priced too.
