Don't go
I don't know how this was given 4**** we booked fergus espanya on the strength of the reviews we got there and it was under a refurb so this was the only choice being a bank holiday but it was like nothing I have been to it was like a battle at meal times... the food was cold horrible mush I had salad s we were all inclusive we ate out most times ..they charge for intermittent Internet 3 euros a day. tv is so small in the bedroom you need to quint the staff are the rudest I've come across the noise at night awful walls were paper thin ..and the pool in the spa is a round jacuzzi and the outdoor jacuzzi was empty..

Not a 4* but great staff and service
Arrived at hotel around midnight and we were very pleased to find they had saved us a cold supper which had been left in our room for us as on the booking form we had given them plane landing time. Even though it was late we were given a cheerful polite welcome and my "special requests" had been duly noted and we were given "a room at the end of corridor away from lifts".Room: Our room had a sea view with smallish balcony and two king size beds, 3 electric sockets and lots of lighting to choose from. TV was small but no deposit needed for remote control and pleased to find there was BBC1 and ITV as well as the inevitable CNN.. Hot and cold air con but no fan which would be needed in high season, but this room (516) did not face the sun after mid morning so room stayed cool anyway. Good size bath, good water pressure and very good adjustable powerful shower. Hot water did not run out during busy pre-dinner time as often happens in Spain. hairdryer provided. Power point by wash basin. No bidet. Although spotlessly clean, decoration was tired. No kettle, so take one with you. Shop on left just before church sells good range of electricals at fair prices.Sleep quality:This was a definate downer. The walls really are paper thin, you can hear people talking quietly from both sides and if guest above you is walking around their room wearing heels it sound like gun fire!! If voices are raised its like they are in the room with you. Ear plugs didnt help much. After 2 nights I gave in and bought sleeping pills from the chemist....down to main road, dont cross it, turn right , chemist is on second block. Well worth 7E to sleep well!! I suspect quietest rooms would be on top floor (7) opposite end to rooftop bar. Corridors were carpeted though so no suitcase rolling noise from those arriving/departing during the night. Spare pillows and blankets provided in room. Wardrobe space was enough for us as we only took hand luggage.Resteraunt:Waitresses work really hard to clear and re-set tables quickly, all very clean with spotless plates and cutlery. Breakfast: Great non greasy fried eggs, queue for them first or the rest on your plate may go cold as first thing the cook has to try hard to keep up with demand at this busy time. Pancakes and syrup looked good. Lots of bacon every morning but its more like streaky bacon so quite greasy. Fresh tasty croissants and good choice of breads. Toaster up by the eggs is the quickest one. Best meal of the day!! Lunch and dinner was disappointing, have had better choice and quality in 3* but salads are crisp and fresh. Grilled white fish was juicy and tasty (no bones)as was the piella and veal. Fried meat was always tough. Puddings were lush with excellent choice. I loved the cold rice pudding, creamy and not gritty. Food is luke warm as thats how the Spanish like it, but there are microwaves to heat it up if you want to.Service was excellent and waitress on the most part cheerful and friendly. We found best service was on right hand side. If you are not AI you can pay 2E each ( at till or just help yourself and waitress will clock you for the money or ask to see your till receipt, so keep it.) and help yourself to lager or white/red house wine for the whole sitting.Barrels are at far end of room. Lager was good and cold, wine very ordinary but if you are on a budget its good value. Wines from the wine list are overpriced imo. I liked to eat as soon as resteraunt opened as its quieter and you dont ever have to wait for empty food trays to be replaced. Feel free to use overflow area on right hand side if very busy..its for all quests not just Gold/Silver card. Its quieter and in morning there is no long queue for coffee/toast. Free coffee is only at breakfast, you have to buy coffee in the bar after lunch/dinner. Staff were very amused by my E-cigarette!!As we are not big drinkers ( no need for AI ) I would book half board next time and eat out once a day. Packed lunches were substantial, order at

Don't expect the best - remember it's cheap!
Reading other reviews I was a little worried about the hotel I had booked - the cleanliness, the noise, the staff, the food etc... When we arrived we were greeted by happy Reception staff, and our rooms were spacious and clean. We had two double beds, two wardrobes, a desk, TV, large and spacious bathroom and a large balcony with views over the town. The room was a little tired, but we only paid ¿¿300 per person for the week all inclusive, so took the small bits with a pinch of salt. The star rating in Spain isn't going to be to the same standard as the UK so we were happy with clean rooms. The noise wasn't a problem for us but you can hear almost everything. What annoyed us most was the loud cleaners at 9am, otherwise you kind of get used to the noise of people walking and muffled talking. If you are sensitive to the noise then take ear plugs. Beds were a little hard, so for those used to soft mattresses do beware!Bar staff were friendly, apart from 1 who all week seemed to wish he was elsewhere, avoided eye contact and by the last night was just downright rude. We had read reviews on here about the staff not liking the British, but as where ever we go we try and learn some of their language, this seemed to help a fair bit and even cracked into a joke or two when we pronounced certain words incredibly wrong!Reception staff, again mostly friendly although there was one woman who had a very bad attitude and probably would suit an office job, where she doesn't have to see people, otherwise everyone else was very friendly and helpful and we didn't hesitate at all when we had any questions.Rooftop terrace was lovely, and two of the Jacuzzis were on (visiting out of season we weren't sure they would be). It is over 18s only which was nice. We also booked the private Jacuzzi in the basement of the hotel, where there is a sauna also. You can book for free for 1 hour slots. The food was average, but again considering the cost and size of the hotel we were impressed with what we were offered. The hotel was full of children, we asked a local bar and were told the hotel is used for school groups on field trips etc. They weren't on our floor but they did make the reception and bar loud on occassions. If we did ever go back to Calella we would probably stay here again, it served all of our purposes and from what we were told by locals it is the best H Top hotel, and we were told we were lucky not to have booked the Olympic!!

nice resort
I booked a short break with my son...the resort was lovely, however the hotel was below average. On arrival the room was a tip and the blood platters on the furniture were a bit off putting. The rooms were 'tired' and the repair man regularly repaired the wooden framed patio door glass as they were constantly slammed. The walls were paper thin, so i could hear rows and worst still drunks coming back to their rooms despite loads of signs asking for consideration after midnight. I would like to thank the 3 'Donnie lasses' for their repeated rendition of 'gangland style' over and over until the night staff had to warn them. The food was ok with lots of it, and the staff in the restaurant helpful which could not be said for bar staff not to mention the all inclusive which is not what it seems! As stated the resort is lovely and we went to the Htop Palace several times, which was far better.Back to the rooms, the safe had no lock in it, the air con did not work, the TV had no remote, the walls made of cardboard.....I know the trip was cheap but come on!!

Noisey to say the least!
Planned a nice relaxing holiday, thought a 4* Hotel would be great. On first arrival was pleased as from the outside looked very nice and had a clean and smart looking reception, checking in was simple and staff were friendly. We were given our all inclusive cards and key card and headed up to the room. 2 double beds pushed together! very surprised and pleased, the balcony however was extremely small and disappointing. After unpacking we headed downstairs to look around and see what was were and get a feel for the place, bar was very busy and surprisingly full of children (noisey!) after seeing this we headed out and took a look around the town, a short walk took us to the beach front and the little shops.Returning back to the hotel we headed to the room to unwind after tiring travelling. The real problems begin here and spiral out of control. The walls must of been made out of paper! hear people talking on the floor above and the rooms next to us, it was like they were practically in the room! snoring, coughing, walking, going to the toilet, running a tap, even people having sex! made sleeping extremely difficult until the late hours where you actually knock out due to exhaustion! children running up and down the corridors at all hours got extremely tiresome and frustrating to points of going onto the corridor and telling them to be quiet (which never worked) we skipped breakfast the following day and woke up at around mid-day (trying to catch up on lose hours!) headed down to the bar, and asked for a drink, service with a smile? HA! not a chance from these guys, looked like they had practically been forced to work there and didn't care if you were smiley/polite/friendly, same grumpy expressions. The pool was nice and clean and the outside had plenty of seating space and again looked clean and tidy. Lunch time arrived and we headed to the first floor eatery and again greeted by a grumpy unhappy member of staff that was playing on his phone rather than taking notice of us!! food was average, what you expect really. This is basically what the holiday was like, terrible nights sleep, awful staff that were never smiley or approachable. We tried to occupy our time with going for walks and spending time in our room just to feel somewhat relaxed. The last day of the holiday and we had a late transfer time, so after checking out at 10am we left our bags in the luggage room and went for a walk, when it came to the pick up time we went to collect our bags and noticed they had moved, opening the cases confirmed our suspicions that they had been opened!! someone had actually opened our cases and taken things, presents for friends and family!! a "secure" luggage room? ha! Even worse was when telling the reception staff there was no concern and basically were told "these things happen" no apology whatsoever! a truly disappointing holiday and would not recommend this hotel in any way!
