Adequate
Stayed here for second year as part of business trip. This year my room was sea view and very clean and adequate.This is an old Hotel with some rooms benefiting from a refurbishment programme - which my room was one. It was spotlessly clean and everyday everything was as you'd expect.Staff were excellent and the food was fine.Gym is small and not the most attractive - a little more investment would probably add to the hotel experience

Home away from home feel. Perfect sea-view location.
We were 6 to visit family in Bournemouth and stayed 3 nights from May 9th at the Menzies Carlton hotel. I stayed in a double room on the 1st floor with beautiful sea views. Other members of our party stayed on the 2nd and 3rd with equally stunning views. We arrived late on the Thursday evening to an incredibly warm welcome, I even received a call from reception to make sure I had found my room ok. We couldn't have been better looked after by the hotel's staff over the 3 days, so high marks for the friendly staff that gave quite a home-feel of the hotel. The hotel rooms were very clean and spacious (I had one with a small balcony which was an added bonus). There was a great selection of food at the buffet breakfast, frequently refilled which has proven to be a pet-peeve of mine when not done at other hotels I've stayed at. The bar food was also of a very high standard and I was impressed by the gastro-pub type presentation and, more importantly, taste of the food (highly recommend the fish and chips and house burger). The location is perfect - within easy walking distance to the city centre, and needless to say, a stone's throw from Bournemouth beach (right in front of the East Cliff lift down to the beach or a walkway for those who prefer). I didn't try any of the spa or fitness facilities so I cannot comment.Much credit to General Manager, Philip Barton, and his team for the high standards maintained at the hotel. The entire experience would definitely make the hotel a clear choice for the next visit to Bournemouth.

A lovely stay
We stayed on a Saturday night and the hotel was pretty busy with a large wedding party. Our double room with sea view was lovely, great balcony and view, good facilities, bright / airy and a very comfy bed. The hotel bar is pleasant with some good choices plus cocktails on offer and staff were professional despite the stresses of the wedding. The hotel has a good indoor pool, Jacuzzi, Gym and sauna and the guy that manages this area is an absolute diamond ie relaxed, bubbly, helpful and chatty.Breakfast is informal and you can help yourself to hot food as well as cereals etc, this is great as these days many hotels are so frugal with their portions for the full English, but at the Carlton you just help yourself - taste great too.The hotel is situated opposite the beach and it is only about a 15 minute walk to the town centre, the walk to town is easy, but be warned the walk back is all uphill and pretty steep too. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend Menzies Carlton as a fine place to stay.

Reception, Bar, Restaurant, Bedroom Staff make this one of the best !
When you're coming from the far north, this place ain't easy to find. Having arrived at East Cliffe, the hotel was round the corner, and the car park further round the corner. However I finally found it. I parked, went in the back door, round to the imposing front where I booked in. I explored the bedroom and the public rooms - I was impressed by what I saw .- happy, happy - I stayed. This is a big hotel made cozy by the staff - and they do a great job ! The hotel was somewhat expensive but it is on the seafront ! It always April cold and drizzly - not many tourists. I'll come again for the next conference ( however boring...)
