We stayed in the family room for 2 nights in May 2013. In our long trip in the UK over four cities, we found that this was our favorite hotel. The room was quite big, even for non-European standards.It's in a great location: Cardiff Central railway station is about 15 minutes away (but be sure to plan your route beforehand as you'll probably be passing through some smaller streets). Travelling within Cardiff is a breeze. Almost everything is walkable: the Millennium Stadium is right next door, it's 5 minutes walk down the road to the entrance of Cardiff Castle, and about 10-15 minutes to Queen Street and the surrounding shopping areas. Take the bus no. 6 (also called Baycar 6) to go to Mermaid Quay, about 20 minutes away.The rooms are extremely comfortable and clean, and the counter staff were super helpful. Breakfast was included too, and the restaurant staff were really friendly. They saw I was wearing a Doctor Who tee and we chatted about it.The only real issue may be road noise, particularly ambulances -- I think it might be near a hospital as we heard them quite often. But maybe it depends on where your room is facing. The noise eases up after about 10pm, but it may be a problem if you're a light sleeper.Next time we're in Cardiff, we're definitely staying here again!

I've had bad experiences at Holiday Inn properties, but I'm glad I booked the Cardiff one. A really reasonable rate, and an accomodating approach to a family of 5 (we were able to get an extra bed put into a "2 Queen Bed" room; something a lot of other hotels wont do) were a good start. Once we arrived, check in was easy, the room was clean (perhaps a bit tired, but we werent there to look at the room!) parking very easy, and the breakfasts a good range and quality. Our kids went mad on the automatic pancake machine! Right across from Cardiff castle, 2 blocks from the main arcade, and next to the water bus to catch a ride into the Harbour - what more could you ask for?

This is a good Holiday Inn, well placed for visitors to Cardiff. Very handy for the Cardiff Arms Park and Millennium Stadium. It is also just across the road from Cardiff castle.It is a short walk away from shops in Cardiff.The hotel staff are friendly and welcoming. Check in was quick and it's was easy to find the rooms. The family rooms are spacious. We had a nice view of the river Taff. Some of the furniture is slightly worn and the carpet had a few stains. The bathroom is quite small but not a problem.You can dine in the bar area which surprisingly isn't too big or the main restaurant. The prices are fair and what you would expect to pay from a hotel. We had room service and the food was nice. We never had breakfast.My only issues and its a small one was the price of the wifi, after your complementary time it's ¿¿16 per day which I think is a bit expensive especially for business travellers. Car parking will cost you ¿¿10 per day. This is fair considering the location of the hotel.I would stay here again when visiting Cardiff

I Stay in this hotel for a week. I used a electric wheelchair. When I arrive at the hotel the receptionist staff was very good always with smile and very good at telling you what on in Cardiff you ask them.The bedroom are nicely done and for once i could get round the bedroom and bathroom with my if i want to.They have elc host to get you out of your chair both bedroom and bathroom, they have a very good fire provision to get you out of the hotel which is very good.The hotel is excellent for all being in the middle of Cardiff, Taxis Are very good for wheelchair used.What about the staff well from the top to the bottom they are all great.I am going back soon.Ifyou are think about going to Cardiff this hotel could be one for you.Breakfast was great!

I have just spent one night staying at the Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre and it was a pleasant stay. Location is perfect, right in the centre of everything, directly opposite Cardiff Castle and Bute Park and the Millenium Stadium directly behind (the stadium overlooks the car park at the rear of the hotel). You can get a water taxi from Bute Park just over the road straight to the Cardiff Bay Area, which I am told is a very nice area for Restaurants/Shops/Bars etc, I did not go as did not have enough time. Visited the Castle which is well worth a visit, lovely cafe' inside too.The hotel is a lovely hotel, very well decorated, modern, clean and the rooms are fine for a night or two, as they are a little small, but adequate. My husband and I had a standard double room on the sixth floor with wonderful views, but as we were at the end of the corridor room 627 and facing the castle, we also faced the busy road which can be noisy, even though the windows are apparently double glazed. If you prefer a quieter room, ask for one at the back facing the Millenium Stadium. Bed very comfortable, could do with two firm pillows instead of just one, but I am sure if I had called down to reception they would have brought one up - incidentally these pillows are additional to the standard pillows already supplied. Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room, but no biscuits! Like the fact that it was mugs instead of tea-cups, so you can get a good sized cup of tea. Liked the iron and ironing board in the wardrobe, always handy, no safe in the room. Bathroom fine, had everything we needed and can ask for added supplies if you forget to bring any toiletries, hotel happy to supply.We found all of the staff at this hotel to be very friendly, polite, professional and most of all happy - very nice staff and a credit to the hotel (as echoed by a lot of the previous reviews).We ate in the restaurant on two nights (as my husband was working in the hotel in the conference rooms - which are also very nice, very large and overlooking the castle, so great views) and both nights the food was very enjoyable. I highly recommend the lamb chop and the burgers. Restaurant decor very nice, chairs very comfortable - you can also eat in the bar, which is good if for instance you are travelling alone and feel awkward eating in the restaurant.Breakfast was lovely and plentiful with a good choice of both hot and cold and service in the restaurant on both the morning and evenings was very good.Bar area warm and welcoming and modern and there was also a lovely area just outside the bar in the reception area but off to the side so not in the actual reception, which was a nice place to sit and relax as well.This hotel is both great for business as well as pleasure - would highly recommend.Did not give an "excellent" rating because the rooms are on the small size and because of the slight noise factor at the front.
