Good Location, adequate rooms
DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan is walking distance to Times Square, theaters, subway, and across the street from a Duane Reade drug store. Room was small and without a coffee maker, as I suspect most are in NYC. Drain was slow, wallpaper starting to pull away; chain lock on the door, but it was clean and promptly freshened each day by cheerful housekeepers. Overhead room lighting was poor, but the bedside lamp and desk lamp made it tolerable. There was only one bedside table/lamp, which seemed odd for the Hilton brand.Check-in was easy and uneventful. Concierge desk was always busy and staffed with mostly helpful and informed individuals. One, however, was more aggressive and kept interrupting when we were asking about options on touring using a City Pass. (There is more than one City Pass, so doing research ahead of time will enable an informed decision)Room service for a large pot of coffee the first morning was $18.73. Going to the Metro Grill on the lower level is a better option to get cups of coffee ($2.50++) to go, pick up a WSJ, and an apple. The coffee was hotter and stronger than the pot from room service.Just down the street, the Oxford Caf¿¿ is a great sit down breakfast option if you do not have free breakfast coupons. Very reasonable prices and nice variety including pancakes, French toast, cold cereal, bacon, Lox & Bagel, which include coffee and juice.

Excellent stay in Double Tree Hotel
Very good location, right on subway line.Nice room, we were 2 adults and 2 kids, spacious and furnished. we stayed 9 nights.Very nice employees, especially for the breakfast. Beware of the hidden fees
First, we were attracted by the good value of this Hilton brand hotel, for this great location in Manhattan. The location is very great, a subway station is located right next to the entrance. But as for the value, it got bad when were arrived. STAFFFirst, the service we received was horrible. Both people at the check-in AND the check-out were very mean. We didn't feel welcome at all. They didn't even care to smile at all. The only nice people we met in this hotel, was the bell-boys. BEDSVery not comfortable!CLEANLINESSThe room was clean, except for the bathroom.There was long woman's hair on the floor when we arrived. Also, the soap container in the shower was in metal, and was all rusted. Very disgusting. Finally, the toilet had a hard time to flush correctly. VALUEA lot of hidden fees!!!!When we left on the morning of the check-out, we left our luggage to the bell-boys. I'm all for tipping for this service... but it's the first time that a flat fee is requested.Not only it was requested, but we needed to pay twice!$1 for each bag when we left them AND $1 per bag when we picked them up.$8 for this service is exaggerated to my opinion. Also, there's a $15 wifi fee per day. Which is acceptable for a NYC hotel, even though I appreciate when it's included in the room price usually. BBut the problem is it's $15 PER devices. So we had a laptop, an iPad and an iPhone. We were charged 3 x $15 per day!! Which is unacceptable. Bottom line, it's an acceptable hotel for it's location, but with a lot of hidden fees. I was disappointed for a Hilton brand hotel.

Very cosy
Stayed here on a 5 day trip to New York, of course did not spend much time here due to the fact that i was in NYC. However we checked in after a long flight rooms were ready we were given a room at the back of the hotel no view and a massive fan which made so much noise fair to say was in that room for a minute back down room changed to the 12th floor not a problem. Nothing was to much pillows sent up and changed and we had feather ones which i could not sleep on as it hurt my neck. Wifi was in the lobby which was good to use to keep in touch with teenagers at home could have in the room however i didn't want to pay for that. Rooms were spacious, clean and had everything that was needed for you to be comfortable. Close to everything that was wanted to see no problems and wouldnt stay here again however as there was not kettle tea or coffee making in the rooms and i need access to hot water due to stomach issues and needing to use water bottles at certain points in the day.

Its a decent hotel if you get a good price
I stayed in this hotel last week for a business trip with a colleague. This is the first time I have stayed in NYC on a business trip. (I have stayed a couple times for pleasure.) I made my reservation a couple weeks after she did and I had to pay $55 more a night. The service was okay. I arrived right after noon the first day and the person who checked me in was very kind to find me a room she could give me on the 7th floor. I had a great view of the building next door and the alley below so I kept the curtains closed. The A/C in the room did not work all that well the first day. I did not complain because usually they can't do much about it. When I returned from my work day the next day the room was freezing cold because I had turned it way down hoping to get cool air while I was in the room. The bathroom was small and one thing I don't understand about some of these hotels is why does the shower curtain have to be dragging on the bottom of the tub? No coffee maker. I guess they expect you to pay $$$ for their restaurant or room service coffee. Room was a good size and clean. Bed was comfortable. Liked the big TV on the wall. You have to pay for internet service even if your room costs $350 a night and you have to be a "high roller" HiltonHHonors member to get it for free. I used my personal hot spot. I have to say that the location was good. It was near Park, Madison and 5th Avenues and there were a lot of restaurants in the area as well as great shopping. Not too far from Rockefeller Center. My colleague and I walked a lot the first afternoon/evening and got in a lot of sightseeing. You can get a good, reasonable breakfast right outside the front door at Cafe Metro and there were other places with reasonable food just walking around the block where the hotel is located. Subway is nearby. I might stay here again but keep a lookout for a better room rate. Something I noticed but did not catch on to until later is that the room rate can change for your stay depending on occupancy. I picked the rate that allowed me to cancel 24 hours before arrival and that rate did go down before I arrived but I did not realize I had to change my reservation and pick the lower rate to lock it in. By the time I arrived, the room occupancy had gone up so I had to pay the higher rate.
