Classic - high standards
never easy to choose an hotel in a city, but I recommend The George Hotel. We booked a room via the web "treat your partner", and had a great welcome: un upgraded Executive room, rose petals (synthetic !) on the King size bed, chocolates and strawberries, and... 2 glasses of champagne in the Tempus bar - a nice surprise for my partner on mother's day. We were tired and we took our dinner in the restaurant of the hotel - but no disappointment at all - an excellent dinner and service. It's just a few minutes walk to the castle and the shopping streets.We came by car, but there is no real parking space in the neighbourhood. The parking in front of the hotel is free on Sundays, but on weekdays the city charges ¿¿ 3/h!

Was a god break
We stayed for 1 night, booked 2 room.the rooms were ok but not a good view though. The staff was great, especially the bar man made a very good drink for me and my wife. The breakfast was average having stayed few years ago I must admit the quality has gone down. Again very well looked after the girls at the breakfast table and Mr Dutta who looked after us.One draw back is parking, this should be sorted out.

Very good stay at The George
Stayed two nights with a friend at The George Hotel. It's in a great location and the room was very nice and spacious. The staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly, and the breakfast was good with lots of variety. The only issues were the beds, which were so cheap and lightweight they roll away from you when you try to sit down on them. Not very comfortable either. The street outside was apparently quite noisy. I live in the city centre of York, so am used to drunken revelry all night long, but my friend was not and it kept her awake, so that might be an issue for those who are light sleepers.

great hotel
great hotel close to all shops. service was exceptional from the porter to the housekeeper who had to change our bed sheets twice as my 2 year old was sick twice. at 8pm. she made us feel that we were not a problem for her. the excellent service and local knowledge from conceige to the man in the kilt. top class. dining room excellent. Breakfast lets the whole hotel down! the chef is probably a cook. everything on the hot plate was over cooked. the fried eggs were appalling. burnt around the edges. truly embarrassing. its a real case of the cook asking himself ' would i eat that' if the answer is no, then neither should we, the paying guest. the buffet included kedgeree which was unusual in most of the hotels i have stayed in but this was at the expense of mushrooms or hash browns- basic staples.No fruit yoghurts to be seen. limited bread selection. great pancake machine though. great hotel, great service but save your money on the breakfast. eat out.!
