Good hotel, Extremely good location

For anyone looking for a hotel to set base for a trip to Napoli, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast, this hotel it is a gat option. The hotel in itself is nothings special: A classic 4 star hotel. rooms are big, for Italian standards, and it is clean and well kept. The staff makes a difference, being extremely helpful and nice. What sets the hotel apart is the location: half way between Napoli and Sorrento and a good distance from Pompei, Vesuvio and all the beautiful towns of the Amalfi Coast. If you plan to have this trip and you are based in Napoli, Sorrento and all the towns will be too far away. Stain in Sorrento is nice, but it is far and lots of traffic to go everywhere else. So it you do not want to sleep every night at a different hotel, this is a great option. Additional "freebie" is the location by the sea side and the view of Napoli and Vesuvio!! Highly recommended. Warning: it will work for you mainly if you have a car to move around!

Good view, but isolated

My husband and I were there on a Collette Vacation tour group and stayed for 2 nights, April 24 and 25th. Only one elevator (out of 2) was working. Only 1 person at the registration desk. Only received 2 hrs of Wi-Fii service per day and it didn't work the 2nd day. Ate dinner in the restaurant our first night, very slow service and quality of food fair. The room was clean and spacious and we had a partial sea view and a Juliette balcony. Just wished the hotel was near other hotels and restaurants.

Wonderful setting, but a bit isolated

We visited for just 2 nights to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. Being a platinum priority club member we were upgraded to full sea view room which had a great view overlooking the bay of Naples & mt Vesuvio. The hotel even had a free bottle of prosecco delivered to our room on our first night to celebrate our anniversary which was a nice touch. The hotel grounds were very nice although the actual building is a little stark & industrial looking (I believe it is an old renovated mill or something) swimming pool lovely and just being readied for the summer season which is where we spent the most of day 1. We only ate in the hotel restaurant once and it was very good, had a nice romantic meal, the food was excellent and service great. It was a little expensive but it was a special occasion. On day 2 we took the hotel shuttle and spent the full day in sorrento which was very good value at just ¿¿¿6 return for the both of us. Overall I feel the hotel worthy of 4 stars and would recommend to anyone looking for a short romantic getaway or a base to explore Catania. You really do need a car though. And just a word of warning, traffic back to Naples airport was horrendous, took 2 hours and we nearly missed our flight home! So allow plenty of time!

Some good points.....

Room was lovely and very clean with a comfortable bed but the bath tub was slightly high! No milk at all during the stay- soap appeared after the second day. The shuttle bus service was good and proved very useful as we had not realised we would be so out of things!The service was okay but am really glad that we did not stay during a busier period- ten minutes for coffee at breakfast one morning- another morning we were not asked at all!One of our main reasons for choosing this hotel was the the indoor spa pool, as we realised that mid April was not a good time for using the outdoor pool. However, there was a 10 euro charge per person each time and the spa pool was cold- we only used it once!The reception staff were most welcoming and did their best to iron out any difficulties but we really feel that the 4 stars this hotel gets is due to the wonderful views and the lovely bed- sorry!

Great modern hotel convenient to the sights of Campania

We chose the Crowne Plaza primarily because it was chintz free, it being pretty difficult to find a hotel in the Naples / Sorrento region which doesn't look like grandma's house.Whilst not within walking distance of anywhere, it is located in a great spot directly opposite Vesuvius affording stunning views of Naples bay.The hotel is split over a couple of buildings that have been renovated from a former concrete factory. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed with large comfortable beds. The technology in terms of the TVs was dated and definitely due for an upgrade, and charging for wifi is a constant bugbear for regular travellers who need to keep in touch with the world.The hotel runs a great value shuttle bus (¿¿¿1.50 per person) to Vico railway station and the centre of Sorrento. Thus giving pretty hassle free transport to all the main attractions of the region. During the summer months there is a Circumvesuvius railway station that is open right outside the hotel meaning a convenient rail service every half hour.I think the real thing that sets this hotel apart is the restaurant. After a busy day of sightseeing our group dined in the hotel every evening. For a 4* chain hotel, the food was excellent and incredibly well priced for the quality. The local wines were also very affordable. I'd have no hesitation in recommending it.The pool area was just being readied for the summer season and seemed nice enough. Other than that we used the small gym which was fine for cardio equipment but lacked any resistance kit. The spa area seemed popular with other guests.I got the impression that whilst the staff were keen, they were a little stretched. On a number of occasions we waited for considerably longer than i would expect to at a 4* brand hotel. Presumably in peak season there are more of them employed.If you don't want to be the madness of Naples, or have an aversion to frilly bedspreads, then I'd say the Crowne Plaza is well worth considering. I'll certainly be staying here on future visits to the region.
