Commons Luxury
We stayed here on a gorgeous spring weekend. The location overlooking Boston Commons is perfect. The lobby is beautiful, although not large. Our room was lovely, with a great view. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar was great, with a clubby atmosphere and friendly bartenders. We would definitely stay here again

Worth It
The Taj is not a hotel you just stay at because you're looking for a place to just rest your head. You stay at the Taj if you want to be dazzled and impressed. It IS pricy, but if you have the wallet for it you will not be disappointed. It's close to my favorite area in Boston (Back Bay), and closer to the Charlie Line (which will take you any other places you want to go). Helpful staff, phenomenal food options and classy atmosphere.

Great location average Hotel
Stayed 5 nights recently and were a little disappointed with the stay. The hotel location is great but overall it is tired and needs updating. The room was nice but was looking well worn and the bathroom was small with a pedestal basin and no where to put toiletries. Staff were doing their job but had no enthusiasm and did not go the exta mile to make the stay special. For the price paid I would have expected more.

We won't be back anytime soon! Well past it's best before date.
Just returned from 5 nights at this hotel. It is not 5 *, probably not even 4* more like a 3*. The decor is tired, dated and the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment. We had a suite that had a patched up stained carpet, broken furniture and windows glazed with failed units so that you can't see out, which is a shame as it overlooked the common.Our rate included a complimentary continental breakfast. It is served in a first floor dining room that needs a really good clean, it's self service and having got up to get a coffee refill our unfinished breakfast was cleared away even though personal possessions were left on the table! We didn't bother again! Most but not all of the staff were very friendly however the manager who checked us out was very difficult. When we arrived I questioned the Internet charge, a staggering $10.45 per day, per device!!!! So if we connected our iPad, iPhone and my wife's Blackberry the total cost for 5 days would have been $156.75. The girl that checked us in said we could have free Internet as we were staying 5 days. I doubled checked this the next morning and it was confirmed by the front desk. However at checkout he had other ideas and tried his best to charge us. I mentioned the breakfast earlier and he also tried to charge a $9.24 tip for the breakfast we had collected ourselves and had been cleared away before we finished. This turned into quite a discussion, he eventually, very begrudgingly, gave in. Just as well because I wasn't paying it!This discussion on checkout was awful, unnecessary and highly unprofessional. I'm very disappointed with this hotel having stayed in the Taj in New York which was a different experience!Boston was lovely and we'll be back but not to the Taj. We went to Martha's Vineyard for one night which amazing and separately reviewed.

A pillow menu!
What's not to like a hotel with a pillow menu. The room was great with a lot of old world charm. Very clean and great location. The bar has a wonderful view of the Boston Public Gardens. We had a table by the window and it's a great place to people watch. At the time wedding photos were being taken across the street in the Gardens. We had a very enjoyable time and will stay there again.
