holiday inn brentford lock
We stayed during the half term week, to take our two children on a sightseeing tour of london. We stayed for three nights. We arrived earlier than check in time, were able to park at the hotel for an hourly rate, expecting to leave our bags in the car til our room was ready, but when we went to the desk our room was already ready! Staff were lovely, hotel was very clean and our room was very comfortable. We had two double beds in it which didn't seem too squished. Unfortunately we didn't look out on the canal, but didn't expect this as we had read previous reviews, so looked out on a large building site over the road. We were on the fourth floor so never heard any noise from it, but i doubt it would disturb you on lower floors as far enough away. The walk to brentford station only took 10 minutes, and you can walk along the canal and through residential tree lined roads, so quiet and safe with the kids. The train takes you right into waterloo, and even during rush hour we always got a seat. We got off early at putney one morning to catch the thames clipper boat to embankment which was also easy and fun. We stayed at this hotel as we wanted somewhere quiet, but close enough to london, at a good price, and this hotel was good value. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with loads of choice and good service. Kids also eat free, which made our evening meal good value (approx ¿¿30 including a drink). Do eat at the italian restaurant on the opposite side on the canal, 100m from the hotel. I think it was called Siracusa. Not only was the food wonderful, but the service was the best i have encountered for a long time! They really welcomed our family, and it was an unexpected highlight of our holiday!

Not to be recommended
Car park full on arrival because of wedding function. However young man on the barrier showed us to the last disabled parking space We walked along a psychedelic carpet the whole length of the corridor on the first floor which did not disguise the dirty marks and stainsThe rooms were clean and totally functional and totally soulless. The room reminded me of a budget hotel like the holiday inn express, Premier Inn and travel lodge. I thought we had booked into a four star hotel obviously my mistake.Booked a taxi through the hotel and was charged 50% more for exactly the same journey as evidenced by the return journeyThe bathroom was clean and functional however I dislike the shower dispensers on the wall not acceptable for a 4 star hotelAfter looking around this new open eating and drinking concept we immediately decided we would not be eating at the hotel. The place looked most uninviting.Went for a drink, the beer was off, to get it changed was not easy, could not have a conversation because of the young children in the bar playing on the computers. The sound was deafening and staff advised there was nothing they could do to reduce the volume. My wife then went out to the toilet near the bar and they were in an absolutely disgusting state and she went to reception to complain to be told that there was a large party and they would be cleaned shortlyWe went up to our room at approx 22.00 hours to hear a van being loaded with furniture and this went on to 23.45 hours. If I could have opened the window I would have shouted down for them to moderate the banging and crashing whilst loading the van. I did not contact the staff in the hotel because I am sure that I would have been told that they were clearing up after the wedding party. Woken early in morning by big jets landing at Heathrow on the morning of our departurePoor value at this so called 4 star hotel, at least you get breakfast in a holiday inn express. I would recommend the various eating places we decided to visit rather than eat in the hotel.Breakfast at Time Cafe and Bar. Walk over the road bridge over the canal just outside the main hotel entrance. 100 yards along the pavement and then up some steps into a square overlooking the lock.Dinner at Siracusa Italian kitchen , same directions as aboveDinner at Kew Grill next to Kew green Short taxi ride from the hotel.Complained to receptionist about our stay and she obtained approval for the removal of the ¿¿12 a day parking charge as some form of compensationJust been invited by priority club rewards to register for bonus points if we stay with the group within the next 90 days, an offer we will not be taking up. I have been asked to complete a survey by the company pertaining to our visit and the above will come as no surprise as I have set out the poor experience and was asked if I wanted to be contacted by the company. I replied in the affirmative and no contact has been made to date

A comfortable and convenient hotel
We stayed for two nights over the bank holiday weekend to attend a family wedding at SyonPark. We had been advised to travel with earplugs as the hotel is on the Heathrow fight path, they were certainly not required. Our room was extremely quiet and comfortable, it had no outlook at all, but that didn't bother us. The fact that we were looking at the air conditioning system probably deadened the sound of the planes. The lobby area is very good, spacious and airy, there is a fabulous comfortable balcony, a real sun trap. Everything happens here, restaurant, bar etc.Internet access and free wifi and a couple of computers if you don't have your own. Breakfast, served buffet style was excellent, everything you could wish for. Staff were pleasant and efficient and Hannah was more than helpful when we needed to print out boarding passes. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel, it is very convenient for many sporting events and easy access to many venues. My only complaint and it isn't really a complaint but if you are wanting to eat from the bar menu, beware of the sandwiches, door steps doesnt come close. If you want a sandwich made with half a loaf then you will be ok.Perhaps they are catering for the rugby fans.

Lovely hotel, lovely setting, close to Syon Park...
I got a very good last minute deal on this Hotel and tailored the things I wanted to do around London around staying at this Hotel. One of the things I had booked was Whitechapel Bell foundry, which was probably not the ideal place to venture to and from Brentford, but the journeys were interesting! This Hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Syon Park and a good half hour or slightly more walk of Osterley Park. It is also easily walkable to Kew Riverside. There are plenty of bus routes available and the rail station is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Hotel.Food in the Hotel is pretty good and there are a couple of Bistro type restaurants within easy walking distance around the lock and the normal burger/kebab places on the High Street which is slightly run down, but just a town High Street. My only niggle about the Hotel was that it was too warm and I dont like to use air conditioning which I understand was perfectly functionable. Decor in the rooms, lovely and a really nice contemporary look to the lounge, restaurant and lobby, I would definitely stay there again. The train from Waterloo to Brentford takes about 30 minutes.

Nice hotel but not enough extras
I'm really torn by this hotel. The d¿¿cor is good and the rooms are comfortable but there are a couple of basics which are missing.1) No free fast internet in the rooms! Seriously, you can pay for a slow connection or go downstairs to the lobby for free fast internet access but if you're in your room, they expect you to pay through the nose for this basic service.2) No room service. Really. No room service.I had dinner a few times and the quality was good, I never had breakfast there as the room rate was already high and I didn't feel right expensing ¿¿12 just for some bacon and eggs. Also, parking is good but again very expensive at ¿¿12 per night.I would love to give this hotel 4 stars as the staff are friendly and it is a nice place, however, when spending ¿¿180 per night there are certain basics which need to be provided which just aren't.
