The staff is the best, the rooms are clean and nicely decorated, but I have to agree with the other review about the bathrooms being small! It was a shock to see this lovely room, large closet and TINY bathroom!!! That is the only complaint we had. We ate room service and never had a bad meal (try the Mac and Cheese, it's so rich I could only eat 1/3, but it is the best I have ever eaten).The staff deserves a 2nd shout out because they were friendly and took care of our every wish before we ask! I felt really spoiled!

I stayed one night at the Hilton Orrington while visiting Northwestern University. The hotel is mere steps from campus and is located in the heart of the shopping district in Evanston. I found this Hilton to be a little below par for the Hilton brand. While my room on the 6th floor was comfortable, the bathroom was extremely tiny, so tiny that I was afraid I'd be knocking things into the toilet, which is wedged tightly between the bathtub and the tiny sink in the corner. There are no towel racks in the bathroom, other than the ones in the shower. Perhaps that was why I had only bath towels and no washcloths or hand towels. I requested some from housekeeping and was promptly given a big stack of towels (dropped onto the sink. There was truly no other place to put them.) The hairdryer was broken, as was the electric socket in the bathroom. Housekeeping brought me another hairdryer, which had to be plugged in behind the TV, making its use awkward and inconvenient. The room had big windows letting in plenty of light, with attractive wooden shutters instead of curtains. Because the hotel is located in a busy area, the street lights are rather bright, so the room does not get completely dark. Did not bother me, but if you like a dark room, you may want to pack your eye mask. The walls were not well-sound proofed, so that when people were talking at normal levels in the hallway, they actually sounded like they were in my room. Fortunately, the people on my hallway were quiet most of the time so it was not a big problem.I was pleased there was free wireless in the room, as other Hiltons often charge for this service. Reception was good.There is no parking on the premises, but valet parking is available for $22/night, which I thought was quite expensive. Free street parking in the nearby neighborhood is readily available, so I parked at a meter in front of the hotel while I checked in (25 cents for 15 minutes), then moved the car 2 blocks away. Just pay attention to the street parking signs, as there may be a 2 hour limit during the day until 6:00 p.m., after which you can park overnight in many areas. The hotel did not offer complimentary breakfast. On previous visits I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, a little less convenient but I think it provides superior service and quality of rooms, with cheaper parking in a covered garage and a free breakfast. I also never noticed a noise problem at the Garden Inn.Hilton Orrington is a pet-friendly hotel, and I did not really care for all the dogs coming in and out of the hotel. I did not notice any pet related odors, but it may bother some people.Given a choice in the future, I would opt for the Hilton Garden Inn over the Orrington, but the Orrington is very convenient to campus, if that is the purpose of your visit.

This hotel exceeded my expectations on every level. It's a business-class hotel, at a reasonable price. Great location, in the heart of downtown Evanston. I'd stay there again, and would recommend it to anyone visiting Evanston for business or leisure.

The location of the Orrington is wonderful, near Northwestern, shops and great food. Wonderful place to walk around. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were booked into a standard room. The room was nice, outfitted nicely, clean and neat. However the bathroom was the smallest thing we have ever seen! The sink was so small you could not fit your hands in it. You had to step out of the bathroom to change your mind let alone turn around. I don't understand how they could possibly put a guest in a room like this! Truly crazy!
