I wasn't blown away
Having stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Toronto 2 weeks before, the Ritz in Half Moon Bay was shabby and slightly run down in comparison. Location is great, overlooking the sea. My room was nice enough - not fantastic. Bed was very soft, which I don't particularly like. Would I dash back here? No, unlikely.

Fabulous Resort!
Staying at the resort was such a treat. Rooms are elegant, quite and clean. The view from the property is stunning. I enjoyed having cocktails outside by the firepit looking out over the bay at sunset. Staff is as expected at the Ritz Carlton, friendly and helpful.The draw back with the hotel is that it is pretty isolated and food is very expensive. A hamburger and 2 beers was $30. Room service breakfast for one, $51.It was unfortunate that I arrived as Mother's Day Brunch guests were leaving. It took 20 minutes just to get 100 yards to the valet. Also had to tell 3 people directing traffic, I was checking in.

Great Vacation Spot
This was one of the finest hotels I've stayed in (and I am a frequent traveler). From check-in to checkout, I was treated as an honored guest. Everything I needed was provided. The hotel itself is beautiful, with excellent amenities and a caring staff. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

Full Moons at Half Moon Bay
Prior to our visit, I contacted the concierge (Kelli) for advice on restaurants, shopping in the Half Moon Bay area. We must have exchanged 20 emails, and she never got tired of my questions! How great is that? She helped us locate a liquor store that was open on a Sunday (our arrival day). She made suggestions and sent links. She is very knowledgeable about Half Moon Bay and surrounding area.We arrived with a group, there was long lines to check in but things went smoothly and soon we were in our room 609 overlooking the terrace. The windows opened and the breeze off the water was just right. The padded bench under our windows was a nice touch...great for reading while enjoying the scenery. We went down to the terrace. There were two big fire pits with plenty of Adirondack chairs and redwood sofas and chairs with padded seats plus assorted cocktail tables and stools. Our view overlooked the golf course and the water. The sun was warm but the weather was cool. There was wait staff who kept busy...very friendly. The fire pits were lit in the late afternoon. At night there were plenty of blankets in a wooden locker near the fire pits and there were S'mores Kits you could purchase. ...$35.The staff car took up into town several times and we enjoyed eating and shopping. The spa was well-stocked with products and lounge wear and the treatment list is quite long. We enjoyed our Spa Day very much. Room Service was great...we used it mainly for breakfast. They were quick and friendly and the orders were correct each time. The coffee is French-press and we were thrilled it was good and strong.During our trip the hotel had 'Yappy Hour' on the terrace. We enjoyed this so much. So many cute dogs, all well-behaved. A lovely subdivision is near the gates so we got to see many dog-walkers. A bagpiper plays each evening...he starts in front of the hotel and makes his way to the back terrace and the gazebo.This is a lovely hotel, the staff is wonderful and they are very security conscious. I forgot my key card and didn't have my ID since I was returning from the spa. An employee met me outside the door with new key cards and he did check my I.D. after he opened the door. My only complaint is the standard one, especially for the Ritz-Carlton chains...please provide bigger bath soaps and install more outlets in the rooms.

Breathtaking Views!
Truly enjoyed our recent 3 night stay in an oceanfront firepit room. The view was spectacular. The private firepit was such a nice treat including eating smores! The decor of both the hotel and rooms is not opulent but upscale comfortable.The large patio with the multiple firepits, seating areas and gazebo has an incredible view of the 18th green of the golf course and the cliffs looking down to the Pacific Ocean. We had breakfast once at Navio and dinner at the Observatory once. Both were good. Wish there were a few more dining options. However, with our own patio it was really tough to go anywhere else!The spa was nicely appointed with amentities. Enjoyed our scheduled treatments.The staff from the valets to front desk to bellman were attentive and friendly.My biggest critcisms was the distance between the hotel and the pool which was unmarked and the prices.
