This place is really strange, but if you like strange and eclectic, it is great! It is an unusual mix of really elegant and motel6. For example, the doors are steel and seem like they should be in a public office building, but the furniture is granite-topped antiques. The building is the old city hall of the town, and the ceilings are like 20 feet high in the rooms, which might be unsettling to some people. The bathroom had plain fixtures, but had a beautiful tile floor. As I said, it was extremely eclectic. If you are looking for a "normal" hotel or expect it to be like a Ritz Carlton (from the pictures) you will not be happy. It is noisy (outside) especially on a Friday night because it is downtown, but if you like to go hit the bars yourself, it won't matter. And there are some totally cool bars behind the place. If you like funky, strange places, give it a try. It was "mostly" clean (dusty on a decorative pillow and the table lamps) but was extremely clean where it counts - the bed and the bathroom. The mattresses could probably use updating too - one side of the king we slept in was super creaky and would definitely be bad for someone with back problems. The management was extremely helpful and pleasant - and very accommodating. The manager is a really nice guy and went out of his way to be helpful at every opportunity. If you understand what we said about our stay here, then you might want to consider staying here... it felt sort of like we were in a scooby-doo movie. If you don't understand that comment, then it's probably not for you!

probably not for everyone, but an incredible experience
We were in Binghamton for a b ball tournament and could not find a vacancy at any of the name brand hotels got so desperate we took a room at hotel 6 but one step in the room and we turned around and got a refund,we had seen the Grand Royale on line but we were a little unsure, finally we thought it could not be worse than what we just saw, we booked a 2 double bed room for 109 with free continental brkfst.over the phone then went to our 1st game, after the game we had dinner and then finally got to the hotel,at the front desk we were asked to wait while the girl at the desk was on the phone, after a few minutes it became apparent there was a problem with our room, after about 15 minutes we were finally told there had been a mistake and she was going to go up and try to find us a room that was ready, after a few minutes she took us up to a room on the 4th floor,it did have 2 beautiful comfotable beds but the floor was dirty fridge didnt work no tv remote, no towels but it was late and we would be gone by 9am so we decided to stick it out until we noticed that we were next to the ballroom and on the walls were little signs restroom room 403 you guessed it that was the room they were putting us in, went down to the desk and nicely told the girl that was'nt acceptable and that we would take a king room with a rollaway, this room was much nicer fairly clean, bathroom alittle small but also clean,we had the most beautiful view through the large window of the clock tower with the statue of the scales of justice which at night was illuminated, made you feel like any minute someone would yell the british are coming, all kidding aside if it were'nt for the screw up we would have enjoyed our stay much more the architecture the ambiance was all very nice, with a little work this could be a gem. I forget the name of the girl at the desk but she should get a raise she handled everything herself from getting us towels to bringing in the rollaway, to slipping an apology note under our door, the breakfast was average continental but the complimentary coffee was fantastic, would definitely stay again as long as we got the right room they did reduce our rate to 89 which was nice of her

clean & comfortable but noisy
Let me get this out of the way first - ask for a room on the front side of the hotel. My room was on the other side and the bars across the street do a booming business until 2 or 3 am every night. It was very noisy until they closed. Other than that, my room was fine, clean, safe and comfortable. The building is beautiful and there are lots of restaurants near by. The first morning we were there they had a Farmers Market in front of the hotel - very fun. The breakfasts were not very exciting, but all I really ask for is coffee and fruit, and they had that, so I was happy.

Very good for the price
I felt this was a very good value. It was much nicer than most hotels at the low to mid price range. The customer service was excellent, but that may have been impacted by how few guests there were. I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one the night I stayed. The hotel could benefit from some updates and attention to detail, but then I would expect the price to be much higher.

clean quiet comfortable
My room was clean quiet and comfortable. I sometimes felt that Hugh Jackman was going to ride a horse into the lobby and start singling songs from Les Miserable! in this beautiful building. My only complain? Change the shower curtains.. they are nasty vinyl.. .something softer maybe other than beige?
