Great location, quirky hotel
I stayed here the weekend of 16th March for 2 nights. Hotel was booked as a package with Secret Escapes. Journey time via Metro from Gare du Nord was approx. 10 mins and the Metro station is just opposite the hotel so seemed to offer a great position from which to explore Paris. We stayed in the George Sands room on the third floor. Room was a reasonable size with plenty of wardrobe/drawer space for a weekend visit. The bed was large and comfortable, bathroom clean with plenty of towels and hot water. We had a Jacuzzi bath in our bathroom although the Jacuzzi function didn't seem to work. There was an easy to use in room safe in the wardrobe, functional hairdryer in the bathroom and what appeared to be a clothes steamer, although we didn't use it. Although our room faced out onto the Place Pigalle we didn't experience any major noise or disturbance apart from the muted bass from the nightclub opposite, but after a long day sight seeing it wasn't enough to keep us awake. D¿¿cor throughout the hotel is very 'boudoir' like - lots of pinks, reds, jewel colours and draping which gives the hotel quite a cosy feel. Some areas were perhaps in need of some attention but overall the hotel was clean and more than comfortable enough for a 2 night stay. Hotel staff were perfectly pleasant and spoke English. Buffet breakfast was fine, fresh croissants and tea and coffee brought to your table once seated plus a selection of the usual meats, cheeses, eggs expected from a continental buffet.Being in the red light district there are a lot of sex shops and clubs in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, so there is an air of 'seediness' but I didn't feel unsafe in anyway - more amused by some of the sights! We walked back from the late show at the Moulin Rouge and still no trouble. This hotel is a nice, comfortable and inexpensive base from which to explore the rest of Paris and is ideally located for Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge - infact I would recommend the hotel more highly than the show at the Moulin Rouge!

Reaching For The Stars, But Really Needing A Ladder
Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised when small hotels shine beyond our initial expectations. Other times small hotels act small and diminish the quality of a 4-Star rating they are graced with. Unfortunately, the Villa Royale is the latter rather than the former.Upon entrance the d¿¿cor is colourful and lush. The hotel proceeds rapidly downhill from there. A couple of words are simple enough to outline the issues related to the hotel. Lack of maintenance and in dire need of modernization.Smoking has been outlawed within interiors of buildings in France for some time. Unfortunately the room had red fabric wall coverings. After a thorough soaking over the years from cigarette smoke the smell is embedded within the fabric of the walls, furniture, and treatments. The room is advertised as ¿¿¿non-smoking¿¿¿ chamber. That only means that the occupants cannot contribute to the existing stench = modernization. The bed was atrocious. It resembled an overplayed bunker at a par 3 executive practice golf course. The center of the each bed (2 individual mattresses that constitute a ¿¿¿queen size¿¿¿) was severely divot in the center in what could only be described as over 50 years of use without replacement = maintenance. The shower had sufficient pressure and temperature, but after a minimum amount of duration the shower/tub would fill to ankle deep of water without any sign of proper drainage. Many people refrain from taking a bath and prefer the convenience and efficiency of a shower and they do not like the idea of soaking in soap filled dirty water. It is equally repulsive to stand in soap filled dirty water because the proprietors of an establishment will not schedule a plumber to snake the drains = maintenance. The bathroom hairdryer was totally unusable. I could have generated more air volume through a cocktail straw than emitted from the business end of the hairdryer. The age of the unit was apparent as the color of the housing had transformed from it¿¿¿s original white color to yellow from years of exposure to cigarette smoke = maintenance/modernization.The clothes steamer that I tried to utilize , also located within the bathroom area, was totally dysfunctional. I traversed the quaint stairs down from the 5th floor to the ground floor to speak to the reception agent about resolving the issue. He explained that I could go to their exclusive ¿¿¿Louis Vuitton¿¿¿ suite and use the clothes steamer there. The clothes steamer in the exclusive suite was also non-functional. The reception agent could offer no resolution beyond that except to say that the clothes steamer really does not operate to any level of wrinkle removal. A shirt service was available and I could feel free to send it out in the morning. That solution was not viable as I required my shirt for the upcoming evening events. = maintenance/modernization.There is a plaque proudly displayed at the entrance to the La Villa Royale where the proprietors and staff have achieved and been awarded a 4-Star rating. In my opinion, never has an establishment been so undeserving of the status. Until outstanding issues with maintenance and modernization are resolved the achievement of renewal of the existing rating may prove to be elusive. Wishing upon a star will not prove enough in this instance.

Great Location, Awesome Decor
Stayed here for 2 nights, it was a very clean and secure hotel, with a helpful staff. We had tickets to Moulin Rouge so this location was very convenient, there is also a subway station right outside the hotel with 2 different subway lines to get you on your way around Paris.Area is definitely a bit seedy, but my fiancee and I never felt uncomfortable wandering around at night checking out some local bars (Cafe l'Epoque, O'Sullivans). Definitely recommend staying here as we really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely go back again.

Brilliant deal
My mum & I purchased a deal via secret escapes to Paris from London inc Euro star for Easter weekend for ¿¿225 each for a two night stay-We had read reviews so was aware that this hotel was in the red light district and a lively part of town-We were pleasantly surprised to pull open the big solid heavy door upon arrival and enter a beautifully french decor! So quirky and exciting-The receptionist was efficient and friendly, they immediately upgraded us when they realized I had booked a double instead of two single together-We ended up with a deluxe room which had a Jacuzzi to bath our achy feet at the end of each days adventure-All the rooms are named after famous artists and we had Pablo Picasso -There was an easy to use safe in our room. The buffet was fresh and generous and we loved this arty very well thought out little hotel-We fell in love with its eccentricity and luxurious feel it must have been designed and crafted by a very talented craftsman/designer. We was expecting it to be a little run down from the reviews but it was not it was clean and well kept. Yes its noisy at night but that is because it sits between a night club and the sex shop run-we did not hear the music from the nightclub -We had walked all day so was happy to retire to our room at 7-8 pm and felt safe at that time-Yes it got a bit rowdy outside at night but we knew what the noise was (happy people) and we slept through it only waking occasionally from the fun and frolics in the street-It was easy to find very near Metro Pigalle tube-Turn left and its sits between the large black night club and Omnibus. if when leaving the hotel for the day you turned left outside the hotel and left again along the main stretch you would see a busy street on the right a few hundred yards up-Walk up and follow the crowd their is an array of trendy cafes and the usual parisian high quality pastry cakes shops etc etc We ate in a wonderful organic restaurant and loved it-From Pigalle you can metro it to Etienne Marcel and walk down St Denis and Rue Montorgual for more wonderful shops and cafes-We walked home following the maps main streets-We had a wonderful weekend and a great stay -We would recommend for the positive spirited and fun loving types . Loved it! Thank you all the staff at Villa Royale your efforts were much appreciated

Weekend break for sightseeing and romance in Paris
Weekend break staying at Villa Royale for 3 nights.Stayed in the Victor Hugo room. From the first glimpse everything looked really good. The jacuzzi,tv,phone was all working well. Closer inspection some things worn out, carpet edges, jacuzzi had a few marks that we cleaned to avoid hassle, mini bar broken.Reception staff were helpful spoke English and were on 24/7Secure entry to hotel on the side despite pigalle being very seedy and felt very safe inside.Really enjoyed the stay and would consider this hotel again if we ever go back to Paris.
