Great hotel for London
We have just returned from our London trip where we stayed in this hotel for 1 night. We went to London to visit the V&A Museum which is quite literally a 5 minute walk from The Gallery.I searched high and low on the internet looking for a hotel for this weekend and did not have much joy, they were all VERY expensive, too far away or a 2 night mininum stay.I'm glad we settled with The Gallery.We arrived at around 1.30pm and our 2 rooms were ready to check into - great!We were on the first floor and both rooms where nice, fairly small and reminded us a bit of our stay in the New Yorker in New York, small but adequate rooms with everything you need for a short stay.Our room had a little balcony too which was a nice surprise.The bathroom was smallish but had an average sized bath etc, good lighting for hair etc.The bed was very comfy, clean and warm.The air con remote had no batteries so we had to get this sorted by reception which was no trouble.The interior of the hotel is dark, warm and cosy. It has a lot of character and the bar/lounge area is exactly like an old fashioned study/living room with plenty of pictures to be looked at.The atmosphere is nice, warm and relaxed which is added to with the curious artifacts.After our museum trip on Saturday we came back and wanted a drink in the bar, we needed to ask reception if someone could serve us and they called a person from the hotel over the road (which is owned by the same people). This took a few mins but we didn't mind the wait as we were in no rush.The next morning we went down for breakfast which we had to add onto our room bill, it didn't come included.The breakfast was nice, very fresh, very good coffee, friendly staff. The room is called the William Morris room, it is decorated with lovely W Morris wallpaper, very nice if you like that kind of thing.One of the best things about this hotel is the 12pm check out time, I have never known this in any hotel without a charge. It is perfect if you want that extra hour to sort your packing out and to relax, which we did.We checked out at 11.45 ish, the receptionist is very friendly and chatty. There is plenty of information about things to do around London and maps etc.We will definitely stay here again.

No way a four star
We stayed at this hotel in April 2013, It was ver below the standard we had come to expect.The receptionist was texting on her phone as we tried to check inWe could not use the lift as house keeping at filled it with washingThe member of staff too us on a wild goose chase to find our room, my husband found it eventuallyThe carpet in the room had a large iron mark in the middle of the floorThe valnce sheet was very dusty and had obviously not been changeThe window nets had stains on themThe brass features within the room where greenThe toilet seat was wooden with worn out varnishThe so called Queen suite was a box room and very tattyThe bar was shabby and smellyThe staff where unhelpful when we complaineThere where 2 other families complaing the following morning when we checked outWe wont be staying here again

Good hotel, great location
Have recently stayed in three London hotels (The Gallery, Chiswick Moran and the Hilton Olympia). Having got reasonable discounts on the internet, these were comparably priced - mid budget rather than cheap. The Gallery was by far and away the nicest - "olde worlde", quirky and charming, and really well located. I would definitely go back. The Chiswick Moran was stylish and modern and the Hilton was fine.

Good hotel for Central London
Was looking for a reasonably priced (for central London remember!) hotel which was fairly central and would be clean and comfortable. This fit the bill wonderfully. We were upgraded to a King sized room which I was a little relieved about when I saw the size of the room because it was quite small (but fine) so perhaps the king sized referred to the bed. :-) Everything was clean and tidy. Very central location literally around the corner from the Natural History museum and Science museum and V&A (which I highly recommend visiting btw). Also just a 5 minute walk to South Kensington underground. (I fell in love with South Kensington!)The decor was very old English and although perhaps a little tired, it was cute. Lovely old bar downstairs which we didn't make use of because we missed it when we arrived. Staff were quite helpful - one of the guys printed off a list of restaurants around the area for me when I asked for recommendations for eating places and we were given free access to movies as our tv wasn't broken (not a big deal for us as we don't watch tv when sight seeing).Can't comment on breakky as we didn't have this included in our price (¿¿90/night). Overall very happy with my choice. ps doesn't have a fitness centre but couldn't de-select my rating and didn't want to affect the overall rating of hotel....

Quirkily Cosy
We stayed here for one night in order to go to a West End play (starred Rowan Atkinson - not worth the bother - but that's another story!). We got a good deal for the money and found the hotel very conveniently placed, five minutes walk from South Kensington tube station). Our room was very cosy, apart from a portable air-conditioning unit that was too noisy to use. The decor was very olde worlde and very comfortable. The downstairs lounge belongs to another era, with high-backed leather chairs and a large variety of original framed paintings and drawings (hence the hotel's name). Staff were friendly and helpful. I can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there but the stay was worth our while (certainly better that the play!) and I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking something a bit different.
