Great Hotel - Friendly, Clean and Comfortable
We stayed here one night and found this hotel to be very comfortable. Our room was rather large and clean. The beds are comfy too! The hotel staff are VERY helpful! And supplied us, happily, with maps and directions to all the sites. We liked the great convenience of being able to check our bags and use the safe deposit box when we were checking-in/out. The location is near the water, and the port where Cruise Ships are located. There are plenty of restaurants near-by. Most sties are about a 20-45 minute walk depending on where you are headed. However, public transportation is nearby and very easy to navigate. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Barcelona.

Wonderful Hotel with Great Location
Just got back from a long weekend at the hotel for our honeymoon and we could have been more pleased. Check in was easy and we we're soon on our way up to our room. Later in the evening we came back to find a bottle of champagne left in our room which was much appreciated. The room was a decent size and the location was brilliant, little more than a 5 minute brisk walk to La Rambla and the port. Luckily we had no problem with pickpockets although we kept very little on us so as not to get attention and we're always on our guard just in case.We had a room on the 7th floor facing out on to the main road, we had hardly any noise from the busy street below except from when an ambulance or police car had its sirens blaring but they we're loud and could be heard for miles around. The breakfast buffet came included with our room and had a decent choice although I wouldn't have paid ¿¿¿15 per person like some people did, there are plenty of cafe's a short walk away. When we return to Barcelona then I will be happy to stay here again and thanks to the hotel for making our stay a memorable one.

Great location with very helpful staff
From the minute the bell boy carried in our bags from the airport taxi we were impressed with the service at the Barcelona Universal. The receptionist spoke perfect English and explained where to go for breakfast, etc. He asked if we had been to Barcelona before (we hadn't) and then made sure we knew exactly where we were going and gave us business cards with the hotel address on to show a taxi should we get lost.The room was spacious, modern and very clean, the beds were very comfy and the room also had a free safe. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide choice of hot or cold foods. The pool was small but very clean and well maintained and the view from the roof terrace area was amazing. A great hotel in a very good location.

Pleased, would stay again
This is a hotel I would recommend and use again. The location was good - a short walk to the port and the Ramblas, MNAC, the Olympic park, a couple shopping malls. Tour bus drops 5 minutes away in either direction. Several markets, restaurants, and ATMs available within a minute's walk. Taxi stand a block away, as well as a Metro station steps from the door.The hotel staff is helpful and accommodating. It seems pretty standard that Transatlantic flights arrive in the morning, so we, along with many others, arrived at the front desk at 9:00AM. The hotel stored our luggage and offered suggestions to enjoy the city until our rooms were available. When we returned just after lunch, we were given our keys. There is an adequate bar onsite just off the comfortable lobby. The restaurant is a little on the expensive side compared to nearby restaurants, but the salad bar is varied and the portions are generous. Some rooms come with breakfast, but ours did not, so we were a little shocked by the 45 euros we were charged for 3 to eat. However, the convenience and service was worth it at the time, and the breakfast bar was unlimited. The room we had was for 3. We had 2 twin beds pushed together to form a queen, and a pull out bed in a chair for the third person. All beds were comfortable and clean, and extra pillows and blankets were in the closets. We had 3 closets and one safe (large enough to accommodate a laptop), and a sizable bathroom with toilet, bidet, sink, tub/shower, and generous amenities provided. We had three windows, all of which looked out onto interior corridors and walls. In fact, one window looked into the restaurant storage room. A little dull, yes, but the rooftop of the hotel more than made up for the room view. The rooftop includes a small pool, a sitting area, and a panoramic view of the city, mountains, and port. Beautiful. A small workout room is up there as well, but Barcelona is such a walkable city, who needs to work out in a small room at the hotel?We stayed several nights and our room was well maintained each night. Most of the staff spoke enough English to accommodate our lack of Spanish skills. I am pleased and would use this hotel again.

ok for short stay but a little disappointed.
The hotel situation was convenient for the city centre. The walk to La Rambla took about 10 minutes. We arrived before scheduled check in, room wasnt ready but our cases were stored securely. The room was clean and modern as was the bathroom. There was a shower and bath and toiletries were provided daily. The use of the safe was free for a change. The one negative was that there was no window with access to outside so there was no view and you could not see what the weather was doing until you went down to reception. There was a frosted glass window which when opened looked onto a centrally enclosed shaft containing pipework. The shaft had a perspex cover so the room did receive some natural light. We found this arrangement a bit disconcerting.Our room was however quiet whereas some guests at the front said the busy road created considerable noise.We opted to take buffet breakfast the first morning. Considering the cost of 15 euros each the choice was disappointing. We ate out at local bars and cafes during the rest of our stay. Staff were polite and helpful and overall it was an enjoyable short break.
