Best Wedding Ever
Marlfield House is an absolutely idyllic location. We fell in love with it at first sight & chose it as our wedding venue. Over the months leading up to the wedding we stayed in Marlfield many times & got to know the staff quite well, they are all simply incredible, especially Jacques in the bar & restaurant, he is phenomenal. The food is absolutely exquisite & the service is magnificent. We eat there regularly now & have never ever been disappointed, I have worked my way through the menu & each dish is better than the last. The grounds are extremely well kept & photographs do not do any justice, it is also worth mentioning that Marlfield have their own vegetable garden so the produce is always local & remarkably fresh too. Marlfield House is a family run business which in my opinion really gives them the edge, it makes the staff really care about & look after their guests. Margaret & Laura Bowe are truly exceptional at their jobs, their attention to detail, from how many ice-cubes are in your drink, to what picture is hung in your bedroom is something I dont think I have ever come across before. The decor is something you would expect to see in a magazine. We absolutely adore this hotel from start to finish, all our wedding guests & our family had the very same experience as us & many of my friends are planning on holding their own weddings in Marlfield House in the future, they loved the hotel that much. We strongly recommend that you spend some time in Marlfield House!

Warm Welcome but Cold in the Mornings
The staff were warm & welcoming, unfortunately our bedroom was not. The heating did not switch on until after 8am & had no effect on the room temperature until at least 9am. There was no heating in the tiled bathroom either only a feeble wall heater. The full Irish Breakfasts were well done with excellent service, however I had to wear a thick jumper & scarf in the dinning room. By evening the room temperatures were fine, its just a pity this otherwise great hotel (magnificent rooms & grounds) is letting itself down by being tight with the central heating first thing in the mornings. One to avoid during Winter.

Great country house Hotel tucked away near Gorey
This a a great Hotel with fantastic staff & service. The food was great & the service impeccable. The owners are great and nothing was too much trouble. There is a great wine list & the grounds are interesting with a nice kitchen garden. They also have lovely things on display in the Hotel & bedrooms.

William
Having recently visited and stayed overnight with my wife at Marlfield House I was thoroughly dissapointed with the experience. Whilst the staff were pleasant I did not experience any warmth of welcome. My worst experience was with the bedroom, No11. I found it cold and after spending an hour in the bed began to shiver uncontrollably before putting on my clothes. The experience left me with no doubt the room had not been used for a considerable period of time prior to us occupying it. When I complained the next morning I was informed there are cold rooms but No 11 was not one of them and I could have used the electric blanket;which was not brought to my attention. I departed with a cold which lasted a number of days. I will not be returning.

Meh
Eaten here twice over the summer - one Sunday evening dinner - one Saturday afternoon lunch. The words "not that fussed on the place" come to mind. It's a nice leafy drive in and beautiful house, but I think it was closed for a period of time owing to recession and you can really tell. It has a "has been" kind of feel to it. On the first occasion, our food was nothing special and not generous - but still pricey. We returned because we were in the area and my boyfriend had grown up with the idea that it was a great place. That time, he had to send his steak sandwich back as it was cold and had obviously been sitting in the kitchen for some time. My salad was uninspired. Staff there were apologetic and personable which is always a bonus and not something you can buy. They seem to have good winter deals on at the moment which would increase traffic and perhaps get things a little more up to par. Place just seems tired, old and cold - it just needs a little pride back - sorry this review won't help!
