Better than I expected
I had a last minute business trip to New York and was mostly looking for a clean room in a convenient location. I wasn't familiar with Carlton Hotel (but it was priced right on my corporate travel site). It was a short walk from Penn Station, which definitely fit the bill of convenience, and was a lot nicer than the typical hotel options in that area. The building and public areas have a nostalgic but modern feel and this is carried into the design of the rooms. My room was not very big, but it was fine, and the bathroom was good size. It also had plenty of storage and some nice touches like bathrobes and Moulton Brown products (a personal favorite). The staff was very helpful. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but it looked nice and adds tot hte convenience. I would definitely stay here again if I wanted to be in that area.

First time at the Carlton
We had one night to stay in NYC and chose the Carlton based on reviews, location and price. We were not disappointed. As a Silver Marriott member, I was upgraded to a very spacious room with a delightful bathroom. Everyone who worked there seemed helpful and friendly. The breakfast was expensive but good. Service was prompt and spot on. Location suited our needs with public transportation, a nice park just south of the hotel, and many interesting restaurants that beckoned us. I think we will be back if lucky enough to have a trip to NYC.

No two rooms the same
The Hotel has a nice lobby area, but the rooms need help. Mine was a very small room on the 11th floor. I asked for a very quiet room and that was given, especially nice because 28th and Madison can be noisy. However, being a gold member of Marriott rewards did not make any difference with regard to room sizes and I thought they would've given me a larger room available. Both the bathroom and the main room were small and tight, it was difficult to turn around the armoire was open. Well I realize this is normal for New York City, it still was a bit smaller than expected. Given the old building, no two rooms are alike and there are lots of unusual rooms and sizes. I stayed here a few years ago and got a very large suite with a view of the empire State building, but a low floor on 28th and Madison Which was very loud. Given the price I paid ($300+)I think you can find a better value elsewhere.

Nice Hotel in a Great Location
We spent a long weekend at the Carlton. The hotel is relatively small, but nicely appointed. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Many reviews state that the rooms are small, but we were lucky to have been upgraded to a suite (Marriott Rewards), which was very large by New York standards.We had only two complaints. First, things were a bit worn in places, but nothing too bad. Second, our view was, well, of the building four feet away across the alley. Of course, that's just New York I suppose. Overall, we would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Great place!!
This hotel was perfect. The hotel had a great bar and a delicious restaurant in it. In the morning the restaurant had all the papers and for my first time in New York it was nice to sit with a cup of coffee and read the Post. The people were very helpful and the room was clean and the bed was comfy!! We had room service and it the chocolate croissants were delicious! I would recommend this hotel highly!!
