Good location
Good location for what you pay, your not far from the hollywood walk of fame or universal studios, free parking, free wifi, spacious rooms and supermarket just across the road. Bathroom could do with a refresh though.Depending what you are like/how you are you may be alarmed at the surroundings i.e. may see "ghetto" but after half a day there we found there is nothing to worry about. Main bedroom light wasnt fix during stay. No in room safes. Reception staff helpful

Great central location
Stayed at The Dixie for 2 nights in November 2012. It's a great place and fairly easy to find in LA. Had a few concerns on arrival as it did look like we might have ventured into Spring Break territory (even though the wrong time of year!) as there were lots of youngsters hanging around the walkways but any concerns about noise etc didn't come to anything.Parking is a bit limited but the room was a good size and the pool was a very welcome addition after walking around LA on a blisteringly hot day.The only issue I had with The Dixie was that the chap on reception was on the phone the entire time I was checking in which meant I wasn't able to ask questions about location and where to head to eat etc

Far More Than You Pay For
Having read the reviews I wasn't expecting much from the Dixie Hollywood. In fact I expected to feel unsafe in a dirty grungy room that wouldnt lock. Boy was I surprised. The hotel is clean, well cared for an d in Thai Town. I never once felt unsafe even when returning from nearby Universal Studios after dark on the Met. The area around the hotel is safe and reasonably clean, there is a farmers market on Wed afternoon and the selection of Thai restaurants within a block supply a variety of very tasty meals. Do be careful to ask as some are MSG free and some are not.My room (237) was directly above the diner at the front of the hotel. The room is huge, with two queen beds, a full kitchen and a large bathroom. While there was some noise from the road I wouldn't call it excessive, the staff is very accommodating so ask if you want to be up the back. If potential noise bothers you and you aren't a night owl like me you may wish to ask about filming in the diner as there was loud music vibrating our floors until 2am on the Saturday night otherwise we hardly heard a peep out of the diner. Go in and say hi to Rebecca and Josh the food is fantastic, the place looks like a diner but. The food is four to five star. The beds were comfortable, the maid service was impeccable and Carlos was sweet enough to help me bring my international amount of luggage up and down the stairs. The Internet was free and plentiful I counted six different access points. The tv is a big flat screen with plenty of channels. Someone said there were no deadbolts, well apparently they listen because there are deadbolts now. There were plenty of towels by the pool if you wanted to go for a swim and the met is right next door.

Booked a wheelchair access room.. couldn't shower for 2 days!!!
Hi, my wife and I recently stayed at the Dixie Hollywood Hotel, found location was perfect. Metro next door meant easy access around LA. I am in a wheelchair and booked a wheelchair accessible room, which had a jacuzzi... we ended up with a room which had a shower over a bath tub. After 14 hours on a plane from Australia, I had no hope in hell of transferring from my chair to the shower, also.. the hotel didn't have a shower seat.. and I can't exactly stand up. The room itself was roomy and comfortable. However, we did get locked out twice, when our key wasn't working. One of those times was at 2am... and the reception guy went to break into our room to get us in... Most of the staff were friendly, however there were one or two of the overnight staff who gave us the idea they would rather be somewhere else.

Go in with low expectations, be pleased with your stay.
We booked the Dixie Hollywood through Hotwire. The information Hotwire gave us before completing the booking was that we'd be assigned a 3-star hotel in the Hollywood area for $74/night.Well, if the Dixie is a 3-star hotel, then the star giver was being very generous the day the Dixie Hollywood was ranked. That being said, before our arrival, we had read the TripAdvisor reviews for the Dixie and knew what we were getting into.Pros:free parking, free wifi, fridge and microwave in-room, easy check-in, pleasant staff, good interstate accessCons:glacially slow wifi, dark bathroom with leaky ceiling, pool padlocked, street noise, thin walls, itty bitty bath towelsI read a lot of reviews on this site about the uncomfortable beds, but I have to say that I never really felt uncomfortable or unable to sleep in the beds. They're nothing special, just adequate. We were assigned the last first-floor room on the row right next to the street (rm 135). There was an air conditioning unit which would fire up every so often and create a loud noise. The upstairs neighbors must have been taking dance lessons because we heard them walking around consistently throughout the night. The bathroom was probably the worst part of our otherwise average experience. The bathroom light was slow to turn on and when it did, it was more like a dim glow than a light. When you pulled the shower curtain closed, you ended up showering in near-darkness because of the dim lighting conditions. And the towels were so tiny that unless you are extremely petite, you're unlikely to cover more than half of your body by wrapping the towel around you.Ultimately, we got exactly what we paid for with our stay at the Dixie Hollyood. We went in with low expectations and they were met but not surpassed. If you are merely looking for a convenient place to rest your head, this is a fine choice.
