Beautiful and clean!
I stayed here because I needed a place at the last minute for one night only during Memorial Day weekend, and every other hotel had two night minimums or was fully booked. They even graciously gave me the AAA discount when I called. I did not have high expectations, so was quite pleasantly surprised. The lobby area is beautiful, and the rooms are very spacious. I don't know how old the hotel is, but it looks new or recently renovated. The bathroom was very large, and everything was clean clean clean! The decor is a bit French country, so not modern, but it is pretty and comfortable. The desk clerks were friendly upon check-in and check-out. My only complaints would be the painfully slow internet and the fog horn, which is like a constant irritation. The fog horn isn't the hotels fault, but maybe they could have had better insulation and/or double pane sliders to the balcony.

OK hotel, terrible staff
We chose this hotel for our spring break because of the location. We were planning to explore San Francisco, Napa valley & Monterrey. The hotel itself was ok, although the d¿¿cor was a bit tired, beds narrow and uncomfortable, and the fog horn kept us up at night. What stood out about this hotel was the staff. Not only they weren¿¿¿t helpful, but they seemed to enjoy it. It was almost twisted. First, when we arrived on Sunday evening around 9 pm, the bartender gleefully told us that kitchen is closed. Is there a hotel in America, where the kitchen closes at 9 pm? Two days later, water stopped running while I was getting ready, with only scolding hot water coming from one facet. I almost burned my hand. When we told the people at the reception, they told us that water was shut down for maintenance. When we asked why no one told us, we got crooked smiles and no answers. It seemed as if they were amused by the whole thing. When we tried to speak to the manager that same evening, we got the same reaction from a different set of people at the reception desk. No apology, nothing. The entire stay seemed like one long episode of ¿¿¿pranked¿¿¿.

Location, Location & Location!
Do you like walks along the beach, through an estuary or how about a hill climb that sets the heart a beatin'. The climb to the top of the small peninsula reveals Mavericks, an ultra famous surfing spot. Then, upon your return from the ocean, you'll see a half-dozen restaurants whose menus adorn the entrances. Be a kid in a candy shop and select your flavor for the evening meal. And guest what--you'll be able to walk to dinner too! I love parking my car and never feeling a need to return to it. The Oceano Hotel & Spa can service all your needs: wi-fi, bar, food service, large bathrooms, comfortable bedding, fireplace (gas), views, service...well,you get the picture! Is there a price to be paid....yeah! When the tax was added $220 was swiped upon my credit card. Did I receive equivalent value....yeah! And one final suggestion...the best news of all is, Caffe Mezzaluna about ten steps out the south exit of Oceano Hotel. Espresso coffee (well made) on-site bake goods (delicious) and a service attitude not to be doubted. When you combine all of these elements: the walking, the food, the ambience and consideration, you'll be hard-pressed to find an equivalent nearby. Do it!

Great location!
The Oceano Hotel and Spa Half Moon Bay is located in an ideal spot near the marina in Half Moon Bay. Many of the rooms overlook the marina and the room we had was an oversize room with a nice size area for relaxing. There are several restaurants (non chain) within walking distance and some within a short drive of the hotel. The service from the hotel staff at the front desk was one of the best I have experienced in California. The value at this hotel is underscored being in a great location in the marina.We will be staying there again when in Half Moon Bay.

Struggling
We stayed at the hotel one night for a special birthday occasion. The good is that the rooms are spacious, the wifi is free, and the front desk staff seem attentive, responsive, and welcoming. After checking out, I left with the feeling that the place is struggling on many accounts. The decor is confused..is is ocean side or victorian. (sailboats on ball, more victorian furnishings down below except for the glass coffee table with seashells below. Is it arts and crafts...mirrors decorated with buttons. Unfortunately there were disappointments. Although the wifi is free, it kept dropping connection and I heard other guests talking to the front desk about this also. No fan in the bathroom? Double shower conditioner samples, but no shampoo. For Sunday brunch, wait staff was very insistent we not sit down until the hours listed, but then all of the food was not set out yet either when the time arrived. Beds are comfortable and the view was nice. Confusion about the bill afterwards with charges not dropping off after calling about an overcharge. Again, while friendly, they seem to be struggling and things just seemed a little off.
