Nice stay
Coming from the (amazing) sofitel Moorea overwater bungalow, we had a garden bungalow waiting for us here. The boat trip from the airport to the hotel was a classic, only me, my wife and the very nice sailor, a very nice and communicative white blond guy (sorry don't remember the name) that made sure to introduce to us all the places & hotels as we were passing by and taking photos of us with the wonderfull background. That boat trip was really the best introduction that we can expect. As we arrived Ms. Anita, mencioned here also, was keeping us aware of the amount of good things to do outside, and also made sure to mention her name if we bought any pearl in a specific shop in the island main village... It was a bit anoying because as someone wrote here, if you go half way around the world to an idylic place (myself coming from Portugal) you are not interested in hearing seller propaganda. The hotel must find a way to advertise the very good touring in the island in a not invasive way, by putting appealing flyers in the room, or even program in the second day of the stay to meet the guests and present the services if they are interested.Okay so we got to the bungalow, and we found it clean but with visible wear signs like smudges and stains in the walls, and the ceiling fan was not working. The room itself was ok, nicely decorated but the wear marks and the fail in the equipment disappointing.Food was ok, room service average but the staff in the restaurant was very nice. They make a surprise in a specific day of the week that you will like. The romantic dinner in the private island is a must do, however our was spoiled by a thunderstorm that forced us to go inside. Offcourse the hotel has no control on this, and in a tropical climate you can have this without much time to react. We booked our tours in Tahiti airport, they were cheaper and you get to see the same things that are presented to you in the hotels. We were snorkeling with sharks & stingrays (amazing), to the coral garden and then around the island to a private motu where we had lunch and saw turtles, swim again with more sharks & stingrays and had a walk in the ocean side of the motu. It was a very good day.To go around the island you can rent a scooter, it's worthwile and be sure to stop at Matira beach, the only public beach in the island, and relax a little bit there enjoying a Hinano and eating some snacks. The snorkeling at the resort vicinity is way below average because is too damaged and dirty. You must go to the private island to have good snorkeling.Overall, it was a good stay but our expectations were a little bit on the high side as we moved down one level coming from the previous hotel, so I assume that can have an influence in the global feeling.

Nice property
This was the second of 3 properties we stayed at in Bora Bora and a welcome treat. We had a beachfront bungalow and it was just beautiful and about 30 feet from the water. At check in Anita was great , most people come in from the plane and as we came from another property and booked it last minute there was some sorting out to do and she did it quickly, allowing an early check in as well. We booked the Eco Tour for the shark snorkeling and the Coral Garden and it was great. You definitely need to snorkel with the sharks and stingrays. The only down side to this property is the food is expensive. If you get a package with breakfast or half board I¿¿¿m sure it¿¿¿s more reasonable. The breakfast buffet was around $50 each, ouch! The continental breakfast for 2 was $25. Since we had a fridge we went to the store and got bread, meat and cheese and had a great breakfast for about $10 or less. They also sell wine and spirits but not on Sunday. To get to the store go out to the road and turn left, it¿¿¿s a short walk and you will see the store and just past is a restaurant (the Bounty?) which really is not much cheaper but very nice and they had good pizzas. The pizza place others have talked about is now closed. Past that you can walk to the restaurant at the Maitai hotel and there are a few more local places closer to Matira beach (about a 20 minute walk). There was one issue that was not pleasant. There was a local cat hanging around and I gave it some cheese (I know¿¿¿). Apparently it wanted to return the favor and we found a dead rat right outside our door one morning. My husband moved it to the side of the platform so it would be visible to the maid but not smack in front of the door. Apparently the maid did not want to deal with it either, it was gone from the deck but the next day I noticed she had just thrown it next to the hut in the flower bed! Gross!!!

Fairly disappointing, ruined my imagination of heaven a little bit...
Upon arriving bora bora airport, I was greeted by a very polite and attentive French-speaking girl of the resort at the port, which did brighten up my morning, especially after the long-lasting, exhausting, frustrating... (blah blah blah) round-the-world alike flights from Hong Kong. However, goodies couldnt last for long as we found that there were communication difficulties between us - obviously i cant speak any french and my partner was still in junior level french class. Therefore, miscommunication started from here. We wanted to walk around the "town centre" before goto the resort (as we were arriving at 8ish in the morning, i thought our room shouldnt be available at that early moment), so we told the girl, in mix of english and french, that we would like to take taxi to the resort by ourselves. and per our understanding, the girl told us, she will take care of our luggages (just two small hand-carried bags) and will send to the resort directly by resort's van or sth. So we lunched and walked around the "town centre" which is just a street with no more than 10 shops opened, then waived a taxi to the resort and paid by ourselves. And then guess what, at the resort reception counter, we charged for taxi fare to "transfer our luggages"??!! The staff claimed that we booked taxi transfer at the port but disappeared with only luggages left, thats why we have to paid double taxi fares eventually, though its just small money. Alright then. We paid, again. And then I presented an upgrade voucher gifted by Air NZ as a newly qualified Gold member, which clearly stated that valid for one level upgrade for any Sofitel/Novotel hotels and resorts. The counter staff just replied that they ve never seen such voucher and not sure whether its valid in their property, therefore denied our upgrade request. And they turned down my another upgrade request which a Platinum member of Le Club should be entitled in any sofitel hotels, with an excuse that all rooms were fully booked and we didnt notice them earlier (um... per our observations, the property did looked empty during our stay)! Opss... Fine, again, we looked at the bright side as the lagoon-front bungalow was nice as well, much better than those photos showed in the resort's website. Thats a surprise for us! Oh another nice arrangement by them was that, they did provided a garden bungalow (seems not yet fully furnished but nice enough for shower/change/reset/chill-out...) before our official checkin time, which i ve never tasted in any other accor properties before. Points added for that. But again, anything good couldnt be long-lasting... Another lady staff, bump into us, speaking very fluent english, without any purpose but kept pushily selling those daytours/dinner packages/activities for the rest of the hrs... Dear! Dont forgot we just travelled from another half of our planet! We need relaxation rather than level-up our stresses! And then we decided to take a ride to the private island side and tan abit on the beach there (get rid of the beach on land side, which just... u know...). According to the hotel web, we should be able to make use of the facilities there by pay several bucks (i forgot the exact amount, maybe USD12?). And, of course, the request was turned down, again, with the reason that the private island was fully occupied and the beach maybe too pack by adding up any new guests! seriously??? but very ironically, if we willing to paid an overpriced dinner package, we would be allowed to there... really too pack? anyway thx but no thx. So anyone were attracted by the beach photos showed in the resort's web, better stop day dreaming unless u did booked the private island bungalows.Eventually we decided to escape from the stress-making lady by moved to the pool. The pool was stunning, just as great as the photos showed, though a little bit smaller than expect (not a problem at all as during our stay, the pool was sooooooooooo empty! not a moment with more than 5 ppl there!)

Glorious, and only a short walk to great snorkeling
We spent three nights, two in a hillside room and one in an over-water bungalow on the private island. The over-water experience was delightful. There was even a window in the floor to watch the fish at night. The bungalow was very large, very luxurious. My favorite experience, however, had more to do with the hotel's private island location, which is right beside the best snorkeling area in Bora Bora. You can walk there, and when all the tour boats leave, you have the reef to yourself. Even the check-out experience was lovely, because the Sofitel gives you a reminder written like a romantic story which includes your flight time, and when you have to catch their boat to meet the taxi. Also, it's a short walk, once you leave the island, to several good restaurants.

A wonderful place to stay in Bora Bora
My boyfriend and I spent 6 magical days at the Sofitel Bora Bora in April 2013 and had a fantastic time. We were greeted with beautiful leis upon arrival at the Bora Bora airport and then by musicians at the dock once we reached the Sofitel. Gregarious manager, Jean Louis, also met us at the dock and checked in with us daily throughout our stay. There were gorgeous flowers on the bed of our over-the-water bungalow upon arrival, complimentary champagne, invitations to a manager's cocktail party and a fabulous Polynesian Cultural Show. We also enjoyed a great breakfast spread every morning as part of our package including delicious poisson cru, crepes, omelets, croissants, fresh fruit, and much more. All the staff were warm and friendly, especially Brigitte, Katrine, Anita, and Louana. Special thanks to Brigitte and Anita for helping us arrange all our activities. We will never forget our wonderful visit to your special island. Mauru'uru roa and merci beaucoup.
