We recently stayed at this hotel for four days at the culmination of a tour of Asia. We were allocated a room on the 8th floor which was at the end of a dark corridor covered by the dirtiest carpet I have ever seen in an hotel. The standard of cleanliness in the room was the same with dirty carpet, stained toilet and dirt engrained around the bathroom fittings. When we checked the coffee making facilities, we discovered the box containing the coffee to be covered in thick white mould which we promptly took down to reception for the staff to see. They said they would speak to housekeeping. The room was unbearably hot throughout our stay as the air conditioning did not work and although the reception staff said they would turn it on and check it,nothing improved. The buffet breakfast was very poor in terms of quality, hygiene and service. We spent most of the time looking for cutlery, glasses and crockery and sometimes these were not clean or available. I had to use a large spoon to eat my breakfast instead of a fork and knife and a cup for orange juice. The hot food and the coffee were cold and there was no hot water or orange juice available and we had to ask for items and then wait for a long time which was not convenient as we had trips planned.Several other guests described similar experiences and by the end of our stay many had resorted to eating at local restaurants instead of eating at the hotel.On the last day when I was waiting for my husband to return from shopping a very rude bar tender requested that I vacate my seat in the foyer for three male guests. I have never been so humiliated and embarrassed. When my husband returned he spoke to the bar tender who gave us orange juice by way of an apology. However this in no way compensated for the treatment I had been given.On the positive side the hotel is conveniently located for the shopping, metro and major tourist attractions but in terms of comfort, hygiene and service this hotel needs to improve dramatically to be considered acceptable. You have been warned!PS. Although I have stayed in many hotels throughout the world, this is the first time I have had to write about a poor experience.

I have stayed in Accor hotels of different kinds in many countries, and one or other of these chains is my usual choice. Quality is almost always high. Prices are reasonable and booking simple. All of these things were present in the Grand Mercure. In addition, it has the advantage of being very close to two Metro stations, which, given the normal state of Beijing traffic, is a big bonus. The tiny reservation I have is that, if you want to eat a western-style breakfast, the one on offer here is not great. On the other hand, if you are happy with congee and pickles, then you will be very happy.

You can't be more central than the Grand Mercure Beijing Central. Close to Metro Lines 1 and 4, these two lines take you to most of the tourist destinations in Beijing. The hotel itself is close to Xidan (a very nice shopping area), the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Mao Maosoleum. The staff is very friendly, and there are a couple of them who come from Europe and speak very good English. We didn't try their restaurant, but we had breakfast there everyday. It started to get tiring after the fifth or sixth day, but that's common in most hotel breakfasts once you stay for more than three days.

If you like a decent hotel in Beijing that is close to actions but quiet at night for a good rest, this is the one to pick. You can walk to Metro line 1, 2, 4 and Xidan within minutes. Frankly, if you are looking for a 5-star hotel experience, you are looking at the wrong place. I have been staying in this hotel every time I visit Beijing over the past two years, and I have recommended it to all my colleagues, whom are coming from Australia and Sweden. There was no complaint.I have read other comments here that their staff¿¿¿s English level is not up to expectation. That is quite surprising as they have two or three European staff working there. And our colleagues from overseas have had no problem in communicating with the staff, including one time we asked for their urgent assistance (all in English) and we got it. I commented last year that their WI-FI was slow. Now their connection speed has been significantly improved and is acceptable.I also commented last year that they did not serve Guinness (OMG), and guess what, they have it now. Although it is the ultra-sound version (silver can), it is better than none at all. I like a hotel that listens to customers and makes improvement to show that they care our view. This hotel is doing that. Thus, I have no reservation to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing looking for a place in this price range.

The condition of hotel is nothing similar to the web page. It needs total renovation. Also the staff really needs to be trained better. Staff did not understood what the Accor advantage plus members.However the location of the hotel was excellent!!!! The sleeping bed it self and room size was good!
