Not A Bad Alternative
OK, you're not on the beach, it's not a tropical paradise, the pool is almost depressing - BUT it's so much less expensive than the beach properties, you're only a couple of blocks to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and its beach and restataurants (and the mobs of people), there is easy walking to the shops you may (or may not) want to visit, the restaurant is quite good, and the hotel staff, to a person, is extraordinarily kind and caring.It's a basic urban Doubletree plopped onto a Hawaiian street setting - but weighing the pros and cons above, you might want to consider it. Just temper your expectations.

Nice place to stay
The hotel is 10-20 minutes walk to the beach and major shopping. There is an ABC store at almost next building for your needs, drinks etc... The rooms are renovated that includes flat TV. My room had shower and was large enough to have a huge twin couch with pretty Hawaiian floral design, lots of storage, huge built-in area to put your luggage up, safe deposit box, coffee machine, empty refrigerator and an office corner. I had a corner location, Room #801 at 8th floor but not an attractive view. The internet connection was with a fee but was flawless and fast. The staff was great, the front desk was always helpful with great positive attitude to assist as well as the Bell staff. The room service dining offered some really good items that included fish and salads. The hallways are not air-conditioned but the room air condition was sufficient. The elevators were very efficient.

Good enough for those wanting Hilton Points.
I traveled yo Honolulu on business for four days at the end of April and was looking for a convenient hotel that would continue earning points as an elite level Hilton Honors member. The Doubletree was much less expensive than the nearby Hilton Hawaiian Village, so I gave it a try.At check-in I was "upgraded to a suite" (room 720), given "free internet access" and 2 bottles of water as a Hilton elite Traveler. Interestingly, the was a a suite adapted for disabled customers (e.g., wheelchair accessible, walk in shower with grab bars and bench seating). I did not need or request such accommodations, but appreciated the suite upgrade with on exception. The closet hanger bars were available only at wheelchair height making having of linger garments a challenge.The staff were generally helpful and friendly, but in a laid-back Hawaiian fashion. For example, when I went to check out two of us different customers) waited for the only available clerk as she chatted of the phone for a good 2-3 minutes. In addition I could not get the WiFi internet link to work consistently. After two sets of complaints about that I learned (on the evening of my final day) that my room had poor WiFi reception because it was adjacent to the elevator shaft which somehow compromised the signal. They offered to move me to another room or give me a $10 dinner coupon, but it was 8 pm and I was scheduled to leave the next morning at 6 am. It would have helped more if they'd addressed this issue when i first raised it 48 hours earlier.The room was generally clean, but with a few non-roach insects. They did a planned fumigation on my second day.I was at business meetings all day x3, so I only really used the room to sleep and shower. The desk was nice, but not helpful without the internet access. The bed was comfortable, but the thermostat was in the living room of the suite and would not go below 68, keeping the bedroom at 72-74 most of the time (a bit too warm for my tastes).The maid service was okay but borderline inattentive on detail (e.g., did not refill empty tissue dispenser or empty water from ice bucket).It's a good enough alternative to the flagship Hilton across the street, but does have lestt than stellar attributes.

Wonderful Stay
Beautiful property, great and friendly service, great location, great restaurant and Bar, the staff made my stay a memory, looking forward to my next trip to this property :) recommend the breakfast and stop at the bar for a cocktail, walk to Waikiki and the Ala Moana Mall, enjoy all what this property has to offer and the location.

DoubleTree Alana is the best
We stay here anytime we are on Oahu. Best of the best! Service is outstanding, rooms are clean and comfortable, easy access to a variety of sites and locations, parking is by valet only but very good, and of course the cookie!
