Good stay
Stayed here with the Great Wsll Marathon package. Nice rooms, great breakfast buffet. The hotel is in close proximity to Tian' namen square, theater, museum, and the Beijing Friendship Hodpital complex. It's situated in the old part of town so, the streets adjacent to it are small but offer local eats. Don't buy off the in hotel shop (it's very pricey). Most guest went to nearby grocery store where the prices are much better. There's restaurants close by with great food. No coffee in the room so, buy those cold coffee drinks at the market. Coffee at the hotel coffee shop will set up back around $7(40 Chinese Yuan).

excellent location, not bad hotel
Its very difficult to know how to rate this hotel, by strict western standards its probably just about three star, but by Chinese standards its at least a four star. On the plus side, a lot of the staff can speak english and are very helpful, particularly the bell staff, who will help you get around town, and get you taxis, a ride to the airport being around ¿¿10. The rooms are average, the beds are quite hard by western standards, soft by Chinese standards. The room vary a bit, those higher up, 11th floor and above appear to have been refurbished, we had a room on the 14th floor one stay which was a lot better than another stay on the 11th, with a far bigger, electronic safe, which was big enough to take our laptop.The location is superb, easy walking distance to all the main attractions, and a good range of restaurants very close, its very easy to get a superb local meal for under ¿¿5. The water in the room is vastly overpriced, go the the supermarket opposite, and pay a tenth of the price.Breakfast about average for China, some fruit, various western breakfast stuff centred on an excellent scrambled egg, and some Chinese stuff for the more adventurous. There is wired internet in all the rooms, at a price, and there is free wifi in the cafe area, they don't seem too fascist about requiring you to buy a drink to use it, but the cafe doesn't open until 9.00am. Try and avoid the rooms in the middle of the tower block, the lifts are rather old, and go up to the top first to begin filling up, so you can wait for ages during the breakfast rush hour.

Good, Central, No Frills Hotel
The Dong Fang is a Westernised hotel of the sort you would find in large European city. Its staff are helpful and pleasant. The exchange rate for cash matches banks but with no fee! It also has a couple of ATMs. The rooms we had were clean and comfortable. The breakfasts provided a wide variety of both western and oriental food. Dong Fang is a relatively short walk from the Temple of Heaven and a slightly longer one to Tianamen Square. Local maps cost 8 yuan at the desk.

Western Breakfast is always welcome!
Rooms are decent, great buffet breakfast with Western options. The tourist map from the counter for 8 yuan (apprx ¿¿¿1) was super handy. Most of the staff speaks reasonable English and they are very helpful. I had purchased a Chinese SIM card but couldn't figure out how to get it working; a couple of girls sorted the issue out and got everything set up for me.Location was nice as well; 10 minute walk to subway or to shopping street.

Don't buy a map from the shop. !
Hotel shop is well stocked but on first day in china paid 80 ruan c 8gbp for tourist map. Blame jet lag and lack of preparation. Hotel is 15min walk from main shopping area. Exchange rate on cash was better than bank or airport.Room was fine. European options available at breakfast.
