The Europa Gatwick is one the Britannia Group Hotels and this one certainly doesn't rule the waves. I booked this 'family excursion' through Caledonian Travel and as Uncle Peter said 'for the price of this coach trip you really can't complain'. However as a upstanding citizen I feel that it is only right to warn others of this dreadful hotel.The wife likes 'shabby chic' but this hotel isn't that. The hotel needs to be closed down for a total refurbishment. On your arrival you are faced with a shabby uninviting reception (the 'leather' couches in the area are all torn, the carpets are ripped/frayed and the decor is tired) and the staff are as equally uninviting. After no explanation of how to get to our rooms on the third floor from the reception staff we eventually worked this out for ourselves. On leaving the lift to enter the third floor you are greeted by a rug that looks as though it has been chewed by Scooby Doo or Santa's Little Helper. The rooms are VERY shabby. The furniture is old and tired, the carpet threadbare and the bed linen has seen better days. Despite the distress of the fittings and furniture the room was clean.Our trip with Caledonian also included breakfast and dinner for the 3 nights we had the misfortune to stay here. If you think the reception staff are rude the restaurant staff surpass them. The restaurant staff are unhelpful and downright rude. They lack any form of professionalism - their uniforms are as shabby as the hotel and their shirts don't dazzle from being washed with DAZ soap powder. I had to witness a member of staff being spoken to by a fellow member of the team like a piece of dirt on his shoes. There was only one member of that team who smiled and tried to be helpful - that was the young man who was cutting the meat at the carvery on 04/06/13 & 05/06/13. The food was awful - over cooked vegetables, burnt roast potatoes, hard rolls, soup from a packet - I could go on and on. The breakfast wasn't any better and my wife is still looking for the continental breakfast. The only good thing about this hotel is the road out of it. Note to the Britannia Group - close this hotel down for a total refurbishment and sack your existing staff. If you don't have the balls to sack them then at least send them for some form of customer service training.

This is ok for cheap parking assuming you are flying from Gatwick. If you are looking for anything else then go elsewhere. Do not believe the pictures on the website, this place is little better than a dive. The whole place is shabby and threadbear. The state of the fixtures and fittings in our bathroom was simply shocking.The reception staff were generally unfriendly and sullen, though the bar staff were slightly better.DO NOT EAT FROM THE RESTAURANT! The carvery was disgusting and consisted of the choice of one starter of stale bread rolls and packet soup followed by dry meat and over cooked vegetables as a main all for ¿¿15 a head!! We decided to give the frozen Sara Lee gateaux a miss and opted for the over priced room service pizza instead due to the hunger pangs after the inedible carvery.This a cheap hotel but it's really not a good place to stay, it's worth the extra ¿¿20 to stay elsewhere!!

Reception staff rude and unfriendly. Room very tired! Decor "distressed"??Cheap to use for parking nothing else. Don't be taken in by the hotel photos..they were obviously taken by a very good photographer!

We stayed here overnight before an early flight from gatwick.for the price we paid for a room and parking 15 nights you can not complain pay more if you want better.Friendly staff on check in,room clean alright it was way down the passage for a early morning transfer ( 3.00am) Dinner buffet ok well use again.

We arrived at the hotel and had to drive around for quite some time. We eventually found a space under and beside a tree. Very tight squeeze. The booking in was very efficient but finding the room was time consuming. I thought it a pity that we were located in a room as far down a corridor as possible which meant the possibility of disturbing sleepers as we were due to leave at silly o'clock in the morning. Why cant the early leavers be put closer to the exit? That said, the room was clean and comfortable if dated. Someone in the nearby vicinity was smoking or had been recently. Bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately in the morning we were too early for breakfast but my husband has to take his tablets with food. I explained to the guy on reception who immediately went into the kitchen and got some croissants in a bag for us. Well done for taking the initiative. Another guy from reception even asked the bus to wait until the food arrived. The bus service was good and punctual as well as cheerful, just what was needed for the start of a holiday. On arrival back in this country we got on the shuttle and my husband realised he had lost his wallet. The driver drove us back to the airport and helped us off with the luggage. Very helpful. Husband had left wallet on trolley. Retrieved and again, when the shuttle arrived, driver pleased that we had found the wallet. Arrived to collect car at hotel and decided to have coffee and tea. Both tasted great and very reasonably priced. All staff appeared happy and very helpful.
