This place is in serious need of a facelift
Don't get me wrong, I like vintage charm as much as the next guy. But I wouldn't call this hotel vintage and it certainly has no charm at all. It is just old. I don't know when it was last renovated, but it was before my time. It has this grandma's living room feel to it, with shaggy carpet, dated furniture, 60's looking bathroom where you're actually happy that the hot water works because it wasn't a given from the looks of it.I had the breakfast buffet and although there were only 20 guests or so, they weren't able to keep up and important engridients (e.g. eggs) were running out all the time.Friendly service at the reception was the only redeeming factor.

Poor experience with the Mercure Hadleys
Stayed one night in the Mercure Hadleys in one of their suite. The room was in the older part of the hotel and the room looks really tired. Extremely old decor, CRT TV, Sofa that was half collapsed, dirty carpets. It was just not up to standard. We arrived late so despite of all the issues, we headed to bed. Waking up next morning, the whole 4th floor was filled with a very strong burning smell and my wife and I couldn't stop coughing. Rang the front desk asking what was the problem and the answer was the smoke coming from the chimney of the fireplace in the restaurant! What a joke!Honestly, this is a very disappointing experience and I will definitely not stay in this hotel when I am in Hobart again.

Rooms were tidy but old
The hotel in general was OK and the restaurant food for breakfast and dinner was good. The rooms are a bit dated and tired looking and the in room TV was not only old but it flickered like the old B&W TV's did when I was a kid. It probably would have been better not to have had a TV than the one that was in there.

Good value and location
We stayed at the Hadleys for 4 nights which was all good after the first night and our request to move rooms. The first night we were given a front room which was above the street and very noisy due to the road traffic and the 3am night club next door. I think it would pay for the hotel to get the front rooms double glazed. The hotel is great value and close to cafes, restaurants, the river and around the corner from the Saturday markets. We would stay at the Hadleys again.

Location and Atmosphere
Mecure Hadleys Hobart is a wonderful place to stay. The location is ideal for accessing all the main attractions of Hobart but is in a quiet street. Everything is in walking distance.The staff are friendly and helpful.The main appeal of the hotel is its atmosphere. It is a grand old building and the furniture and fittings are in keeping with the historic town. Staying in a room there evokes the sense of being in the city in a previous era - but without compromising on a modern comfortable bed and bathroom.
