Only suitable for overnight stopover
We checked into the CITIC for the night before our flight back to the UK. Having stayed in Beijing before we knew that it was reaonably close to the airport (but beware it's not very close to the city attractions and the traffic in/out of the city is a nightmare).Having read other reviews about finding the way to the shuttle bus we followed the instructions given to us by Booking.com to the letter and we did find the right place (gate 2 in the ground floor car park); it didn't help however that gate 2 had been blocked off and the sign removed - still we guessed that it was the spot between gates 1 and 3. The bus duly arrived and we only just squeezed on - it just about carries 7 people with a bag each. There is only one bus every half-hour so you could have a long wait. Buses leave the airport on the quarter past and quarter to the hour and the hotel on the hour and the half hour but they only run between 6am and 11.30pm, so not much good if you have an early flight. Transfer takes 15 minutes. The hotel check in was efficient and staff had good English language skills.Moving out of the lobby was like going back in time 40 or so years. The rooms are VERY dated. Two small hard beds with worn bedding, bath with a shower fitted to the taps, old style TV with one or two useless channels, NO alarm clock. There was a plate with one apple and one plum as a welcome next to which was a long list of fines which I would be charged if I damaged anything and another list if I contaminated anything (I pondered whether to actually get in the bed or use the towels!!).Breakfast starts at 6am. We were there at the opening due to an early flight but its sad to say that the cooked food was already only luke warm and there was food residue on the floor (presumably not cleaned from the previous evening). However there was a good variety of food.Hotel is overpriced for an overnight stay because you're paying for things like the gym and outdoor swimming pool which you'll never use. It didn't meet up to my expectations from the advertisng I had read but it did the job for us because we arrived late and left early.

Overpriced
Beware of the "airport shuttle"! We tried to locate the shuttle at the airport...it took nearly an hour, no one new where the location was! Eventually, we found it in the parking garage!! My advice: just take a taxi at the airport to the hotel; it's faster and much less of a hassle. However, their shuttle from the hotel to the airport is fine.On the whole, the hotel is ok, but overpriced. Room was small, but clean. Staff was reasonably courteous and helpful. It's ok for a night but don't expect your money's worth.

Not what we expected.
The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from the airport, and this was our reason for chosing this hotel. No seat at the airport to wait for shuttle though, and not very good signage. The first room offered to us was a fire hazard as the Air Con had old exposed wiring. We asked to be moved and was given a renovated room. Painting was being done at the hotel at the time we were there and we nearly choked on the fumes. The Citic Hotel don't seem to have quality tasting milk, and the milk that was on offer did not taste too good. Not that I'm a fan of long life milk, but I would consider taking my own long life milk to China in future. I became sick after drinking milk whilst in Beijing. I know the Chines don't drink a lot of milk, however if they are to cater to the Western diet they need to consider these things. The restaurants were over priced for the quality of the meals. The buffet breakfast was basic. To top off our stay we were chased up in the lift to our room by a women selling souvenirs in the lobby. This continued for 2 days, despite us kindly saying "no thanks". We even tried our basic Chinese to no avail. Eventually we complained to management and she finally stopped, but still attempted to sell things to us but did not haggle and chase us. At times she looked angry. We were dissapointed with Citic Hotel as this was our introduction to Beijing. This hotel still has a long way to go to meet the standard it advertises.

Good for transit stays.
stayed twice in a week on the way in and out of China. First room was on 2 levels 11TH FLOOR]. My preference is the second room I had which was on one level [8TH floor]. Everything is close at hand. Both rooms had plenty of room. They were classed as deluxe but were not expensive. They were clean and beds were comfortable. The one level room had widows that opened which was good because the room was far too hot and I couldn't bring down the temperature by adjusting the gauge. The hotel has a good gym and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. There is a free shuttle to and from the airport. Get good instructions where to find it at the airport. It is not easy. English is a challenge to most of the staff but you can get by. Internet was available free of charge but I couldn't get it to work and nor could I get the staff to understand my problem. For a transit stay it is pretty good.

Good option if you're in transit
Stayed here for a night between flights and was (mostly) happy. You definitely won't stay at the CITIC when holidaying in one of the world's most polluted cities, but if you're only travelling through, it delivers the goods. Solid 4-star rooms, excellent restaurant, nice deli shop, spa, soundproof windows, o.k. service (communicating in English can be a problem though), good location not right at the airport but a 5-minute drive away. The bus shuttle works fine, and the hotel's website tells you exactly where to find it - walking, on the other hand, is not really feasible, and finding a reasonably-priced taxi at the airport can be a problem, so better stick to the shuttle. And, yes: slightly overpriced at 100 USD for a single.
