Another supposed to be 5 stars local hotel
Not a true 5 stars.. Old hotel, old furnitures, no design efforts. Need to progress to claim 5 stars, even 4... Rooms are comfortable still, and rather large at the Club floor. To get a taxi it took me almost 30 minutes and there is nothing around. If you have the choice, don't go..

China first-timer
Stayed in Holiday Inn in Shanghai initially and stayed here on my return. The quality of the rooms were not as impressive, although the facade raises your hopes. Staff are friendly, though, and good restaurants in close proximity. Hotel management needs to up their game to attarct and keep clients.

Hope their new management makes a difference!
First impression, the corridor to my room had an interesting smell. Once entering my room I was not impressed by all the outdated amenities and decor. I quickly went to the air conditioning in hopes to circulate air in my room and only hot air came out of it. From there, I called the front desk, which didn't understand me (that's ok). So, I took a picture on my ipod of the thermostat and brought it to the front desk and asked for "cold" which I was then told its not on in the building "no cold, fresh air; open window". I went back to my room to open my window and close the blinds a bit to keep the hot sun out and hope for a breeze in. Fortunately, it cooled off during the night. The shower had mold growing in between the tiles, dust on the shelving and after taking a shower it became obvious the mirror was very cleaned. Another guest warned me she had trouble getting a taxi and waiting with the concierge for 20 minutes. Knowing this, I prepared to leave extra early to catch a taxi to my meeting the next morning. I was standing 40 minutes waiting for a taxi with the help of the concierge! That afternoon, I went to CafeZ at 4:40pm for supper since I was heading out 6:30pm. I was the only person in the restaurant. I ordered pizza and they told me it would take 30 minutes. I said that was fine, I had time. 15 minutes later they come back and say they have no pizza. So, I ordered well-done steak which then arrived with a bloody center. Afterwards, I got up and asked for a desert menu and ordered two scoops of chocolate ice cream. I waited 15 minutes while the staff chatted at the cash and decided being the only person in the restaurant and it shouldn't take that long to scoop icecream in a bowl, I went to the cash and explained to cancel the ice cream because I could of ended up sitting there all evening! They handed me the bill with "pizza, steak, wine and ice cream" on it.... Out of that I only got the wine and steak! I explained that I would have loved to eat the pizza and the ice cream, but those were not served to me and shouldn't be on my bill. No apology, no complementary wine, they just redid the bill with the correct information. The following morning I checked the breakfast time ran til 10:30am, and in room dinning was served till 11:00am. At 10:10am I went down to Cafe-Z for breakfast. They told me it ended 10:00am and could not serve me any breakfast. I said "nothing?", they assured me I could not get ANY food for breakfast. I explained how the information in the room says 10:30 and 11:00am and they apologized and told me that information was wrong it finished at 10:00am. Once again, rather than them being inconvenienced by their mistake, I ended up missing out on my breakfast! I am not a fussy person when it comes to travel, but I felt I should state it how it is from my experience! The new manager asked for reviews on traveladvisor, so here is mine.I hope this information can help you build a much stronger foundation for your hotel.

starting to wear
I have stayed numerous times at this hotel. And this time it is becoming evident that the hotel is in need of a makeover the bathroom is slightly moldy and taps were not working very well. Further the noise level in between the rooms is to high.Staff is nice enough but standard of food has declined tremendously as well very basic standard.

Decent hotel. Lousy food.
The hotel was actually nice enough, although not in a great location. In order to get the "happening" parts of the city, a cab or subway ride is necessary. The hotel is actually a part of the stadium, so if you're there for a sporting event in the stadium (I wasn't), that would definitely be a plus. I was very unhappy with the food, though. Due to the schedule of my event, I had to eat all,of my meals in the hotel restaurant. It was really lousy. Which is sad, because everyone says that one of the greatest things about China is the food.
