60th Birthday Stay @ Hotel Carlton
Stepping into the Hotel Carlton was like being transported to an exotic Ali Baba inspired adventure...the decor, the smells t(lobby restaurant) and the hospitality were delightful! The valet at the front door, greeted us, very friendly, the front desk and staff welcomed us and made us feel right at home and special. It was my birthday, we were given a lovely bottle of wine! Our room was very trendy, the color pallet was amazing, beautiful selections of teal greens on the walls with burnet oranges and golds bedding and pillows...loved it!....the entire hotel was super clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was a grand size and the towels were plush and plentiful.Yes, at times you could hear your neighbors and folks in the hallways, but it added to the adventure, many of the conversations were in foreign languages and it added to the flavor and adventure.We highly recommend the bar/restaurant next door, FLY!An Amsterdamish atmosphere neighborhood bar/pub.....Courtney our bar keeper was delightful, the drink menu very off the charts as was the food .....both fresh, fun + innovative!

Nice City Hotel
We spent three nights at Hotel Carlton. The room was modern and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, the street noise as well as the guests next door were very audible in the room. Nevertheless, the hotel is a great starting point for exploring the city thanks to its good location. Thumbs up for the good value for money!

Smallish, oldish, but very nice too,
stayed her for 4 nights from 25th May. As previous reviews had stated it is a bit old and the elevators a bit rickety but this is forgiven when you see the spotless room, linen and towels. Local bars are pleasant, as are local shops and food places. The walls are very thin in the rooms and you can hear your neighbours but turn the sound up on your plasma tv and its ok. There is a happy hour with free wine at about 5.30pm each evening, although I did not see this advertised anywhere, just came across it one evening. The staff are so pleasant and helpful especially when our taxi did not arrive to take us to the airport for our next destination. They quickly arranged an alternate car which was chargeable but luxury compared to the taxi. There was a restaurant serving Yemen food which seemed popular- we only tried brunch there- but found it too dry for our western palates.

Surprisingly nice stay!
It's an old hotel. That much is obvious by the neighborhood and when you hop into one of the elevators. But it's clean. And refreshed with updated rooms, linens and bathrooms and fancy tv and alarm clock. You might hear some fire engine sirens throughout your stay from the nearby station, but it's not unexpected in an urban setting. And your main doorjam might not fit perfectly together (remember... this place is old) and you might hear conversations from next door. But if you're enjoying SF as you're supposed to be doing, you'll be nowhere near your hotel and, instead, wandering the city from dawn to dusk anyway. The staff is ridiculously nice and friendly.

Wonderful stay!
This hotel was perfect for our stay in San Francisco! We needed a clean, comfortable stay in a good location and that is what we got. We were there only to sleep. Everything was clean, the bed was awesome! Had the basic necessities. And the hotel staff was wonderful! The noise was the only problem we encountered. You were able to hear simple conversations of the people in the room next door. It is the fault of being an older building but it was frustrating. Luckily we were only there to sleep. We did say something and the staff tried to make it right!
