Location and views for a weekend escape.
A central loft apartment was a delightful, relaxing time to escape the rat race. The nearby cafes. restaurants and interesting walks, coupled with good weather made wandering a Hobart a joy. The Hotel itself was older and the bathroom showed its age. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The apartment services made it convenient to eat in and watch the boats. The staff were helpful and even the fire alarm with 'everybody out' couldn't change our opinion.

Nice Room & Great View of Waterfront in the Prime Location!
I guess, this Somerset Hotel locates at the best location in Hobart, right at the waterfront and in the hotels, there are few restaurant options such as simple seafood menu on the terrace, chinese food and cafe etc.The hotel looks nice with beautiful view of the waterfront. The bedroom area is on the upper floor while the living room and a small kitchen area is below and it's in a good size, so very comfortable.You will have almost everything in the room like in any furnished apartment. Washing Machine, Dryer, Ironing Board, Iron, TV, Microwave, Tea Pot, Kitchenware, etc. So its very convenient if you come with a family with children, they also have 2 bedrooms room for family as well.

Great location for these apartments
But one should be aware that Somerset on the Pier is not a hotel but apartments that offer good, comfortable accommodation in an excellent location. The motel style liquid soaps/shampoo in the bathroom were disappointing but staff provided conditioner when requested so....We had a Premier room with a balcony and as we stayed on Sunday and Monday nights - not the weekend we did not experience noise from the restaurants below. However, like so many prior reviews, the plumbing noise from the apartment next door was very loud and I feel management should remedy this situation after so many complaints and not just continue to ignore it!. Ruthie, please do not put this in the too hard basket - get something done about it.My husband enjoyed the complimentary chocolates for his birthday - it was a very nice gesture.

Nice location, but quite a few issues.....
We recently stayed for three nights as a group of 3 in a 3 bedroom duplex.The good points of our stay:Location - close to Salamanca Place/Marke, walking distance to city centre and right on the water.Check in - friendly and efficient although other front desk staff we encountered during our stay where not as friendlyLiving area in the apartment - comfortable, spacious and modern with nice kitchen setupThe not so good points:Apartment - showing age, rough round the edges, very noisy heater-a/c unit. Second 'bedroom' is an open area upstairs, in front of bath room and main bedroom. Upstairs bathroom dingy, old fixtures and very noisy fans when switching on light. Main bedroom dark and claustrophobic as there are no windows in the room.Housekeeping - Very rudimentary service. Table not cleaned/wiped, dishwasher not emptied. Noisy - walls between apartments are really thin. You will hear people speaking, showering, sneezing etc. Overall our stay was more or less okay. Not great. We would potentially consider coming back, only if rates would make it worth it.

why ruthie?
this is not a review but I was looking at somerset to send a friend for her birthday. Over 50% of the reviews I read complain of the noise from other rooms,and then I read the manager thanking people for their stay but ignoring the noise complaint? Ruthie could you tell me if you plan on fixing this non-stop complaint? otherwise Somerset sounds and looks perfect...jordan
