Not bad for the money
I stayed here not long before the new management took over.I was told the new owners would be addressing the lack of airconditioning. It does get warm in Hobart, believe it or not! A fan was supplied but air-con would be so much better.I hope the new owners will also address the noise problem. A couple with two small children moved in across from me - you could certainly hear the crying during the earlier part of the evening. Thank goodness they later slept through the night. More substantial doors and door seals should do the trick.Other than that, a small but perfectly adequate room in a great location - you can walk to just about anywhere in Hobart from here and it's at the right end of town, near Salamanca Place.I stayed here once, some years ago (different owners again!) and would stay again.

Worst experience ever in a hotel of that price range.
In a nutshell unprofessional! Several examples:My tiny room had no light other than a small desklamp and bed lamp. I asked for a lamp so I could find things in my room. Sure, the friendly staff assured me problem was known and lamp would come. Nothing happened. Next day asked another staff, same thing. On the third day, when this and a TV issue had not been sorted, I got another room.The TV did not show all channels, and I wished to see a football game. I rang, staff responded they d get back in one minute, nothing happened.This after I had been told the problem would be fixed!Then the cleaner took a white towel that was on top of my suitcase, must have mistaken it for hotel towel even though it was much bigger.Finally I asked for a wake up call. Staff entered the info. When I came back last night and asked night staff if that info had been passed on to them it hadn t!! Unbelievable really.Rooms: as previous reviewers had said, very noisy and the first room I was in very small with insufficient light, bathroom poorly designed, lacking simple necessities like soap holder in shower.Really not worth the money. Had better experiences in a backpacker.

What more do you need?
Small rooms? Yes. Clean? Yes. Handy position to everything? Yes. Good price? Yes. If you don't plan to spend huge amounts of time in your room, and plan to be out and about, this hotel is great value. 7 minutes walk downhill to Salamanca Place through the gardens. Stroll home and wear off those extra calories you gained at a lovely restaurant. We booked online...no problems at all. I especially liked that you could open the windows.

small but adequate
I stayed just after the take over, twin room very small but clean. Staff still getting to grips with things but friendly and helpful. A lot of street noise. Short walk to Salamanca Square but up hill coming back

Great room for Hobbits
Small, boxy queen room. Bathroom poorly designed and TINY. Shower curtain short so water goes everywhere, you will use your 2 towel daily allocation to mop up the floor. This place has changed hands in the last week, so they didn't know anything about our online booking and tried to charge us $19.95 daily for internet which was included in our pre booking online. Difficulty with room with dull lighting, couldn't find the heater switch in the darkness, couldn't ring the reception as the phone didn't work, then they tried to charge us for 2 calls made ??? NO electric blankets on the beds and there is snow on Mt Wellington right outside our window...that's just discusting and TIGHT ! Parking is tight, if you manage to get any...and they offer a far better deal on the rooms at the front desk than you get online, so we really felt ripped. Not good value, wont be going back.
