Nice size rooms - traffic noise & bathroom only issues
We stayed here for 2 nights (2 adults and 2 children). The rooms were a great size for us and the fact the children had separate sleeping quarters was a bonus. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only complaint is the noise from the street - double glazing on doors would help and the bathroom needs updating - perhaps one for each room would be even better.

Tired & Shabby
Stayed here recently for business. From pulling up in the driveway at the front of the hotel we were startled to see the drab & dilapidated exterior of the hotel. The check in staff were friendly and helpful.We paid extra for a Deluxe Room. The room size is great and that is all that was good about the place. On entering the room our disappointment with our choice of hotel was complete. What a tired, shabby, run down room. All the doors and walls had scuff marks with paint being chipped off in numerous places. (I know this is to be expected to some degree as not all people are careful....BUT...) The whole room was in desperate need of a refurbishment. The bathroom - the towel holders were all wobbly, the bath / shower is downright dangerous. I am reasonably tall - but would hate to see a short person trying to exit the bath safely. It is a BIG step down and out of the deadly slippery bath. It is only safe to turn the shower on once you have safely entered the shower / bath.A step is definitely needed for exiting. The work desk - the work table was unstable - to the point of wonky and the chair had two legs wobbling. The door into the unit did not have the security lock.Beware - if you are staying in summer, there is no air conditioning. It was stinking hot weather, with nothing except the balcony doors to provide some ventilation - but they faced west!!!! We were limited to only having the curtains open after sun-down. And you couldn't leave the doors open at night as it was a very busy, noisy street. The tv in the bedroom was not working properly, the mini bar was not replenished regularly (and the complimentary biscuits were stale), and the ironing board was missing one rubber stopper. The iron doesn't steam or get very hot.When staff were alerted to the missing security lock & wobbly table & chair they were quick to react. Likewise the issue with the television.The dinner in the restaurant was fantastic.Overall a huge disappointment for the amount of money paid.

Looking old, but good value
We stayed two nights at the Mercure Hobart and found that whilst it is not very appealing to the eye - it is definitely looking tired and dated - it had everything we needed. A comfortable bed, a decent location and friendly staff. We spent one evening having a drink at the bar with a great band playing background music. The scallops at the restaurant were amazing too!

Getting dated but received great service and value for our dollar
The rooms are getting dated yes.The place does require capital but hey we stayed two separate nights at beginning and end of our stay inTasmania and could not fault the service or price.One of the cheapest best value rooms ever stayed in with Internet included in privilegeRoom.Parking is only $10 per nightIf Mecure stays so economically priced I will definitely book again.Received friendly service particularly from Kelly

Value for money and great service
There were 4 of us and we had a family suite- 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom. While the hotel is not young everything we needed was there and the service was excellent- friendly, very helpful and relaxed. Cost wise it was excellent value for money. A happy unpretentious place with plenty of good amenities, professional staff and easy walking to everything.
