Not a good as expected
Booked into a room for four (two double beds), because we wanted a good location and something a bit more upmarket then staying at a Backpackers, and Rydges was one of the only hotels that fit the bill (as we booked not long before our stay).The hotel lobby/reception was very clean, and the staff managed to let us to our room before check-in time, which was very good. The location is also excellent, being right in the midst of the city, so close enough to walk to places like Circular Quay and Darling Harbour.The rooms were a bit of a let down though, quite small, tiny fridge filled with their 'room service goodies', which meant there wasn't much room for our things, such as milk and juice. The whole room was also ridiculously dark - there was no ceiling light, just two lamps? The beds were very comfy though!The room maids were also a bit rubbish, for the price we paid - the clocks changed, and we received a note the night before saying not to touch the alarm clocks, as the room staff would do that in the morning. Two days later and we were still an hour behind, so it was lucky we used our phones for alarms or we would have missed a day trip out!

Central, with great staff and service
We stayed for 3 nights and loved the location for access to just about everything we needed in Sydney. The rooms were clean and bed was comfortable and it was not noisy even though it is right in the centre of Sydney. The staff were great from the front desk right down to restaurant and bars. Special thanks to the guys in the restaurant of a night time who remember your name and what wine you were drinking the night before. All staff members were pleasant and looked they all wanted to be there. We would definitely stay there again.

Okay. Noisy
Great location. 2 bedrooms a plus, but if you are in the business of needing two bedrooms, chances are that you would also like a kitchen(ette). The 2 bedroom "family room" comes armed with only a fridge and a kettle, and a tiny table, so look elsewhere. Not really practical. We stayed one night at Rydges, and another night at the Adina Kent Street (for very similar price) and there was no comparison in terms of size/facilities, although the Adina did have a few shortcomings. Street noise was very evident of a night, and it sounded like a race track outside. Staff were friendly and helpful, and assisted with an early check-in. Cot hire of $20 was unreasonable (Adina $5).Would look elsewhere next time.

just a mediocre four-star hotel
We stayed there for four nights. Great location, very close to shopping, dinning and attractions. We literally walked from the hotel to the Opera House and the CBD area. The room we stayed was quite cozy and we did not hear a thing from the street. We all slept pretty well.However, the concierge staff were not very friendly and helpful. When we arrived at the hotel, there were about three or four bell boys at the entrance, but none of them came to us to help us with the luggage and we had to take our luggage ourselves. We had four big suitcases and especially, my 73 year-old grandmother was with us and she needed to carry her own luggage. Also, every time when we passed the lobby, we always saw the concierge staff chatting without noticing and greeting the passing hotel guests. I believe a four-star hotel representing the Australian hotel brand and hospitality could do way better than this.

Okay Really
Would actually rate this as 'Good'. The room sizes are fine and relatively up-to-date. The beds are very comfortable so for some quality sleep time this place was great. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Not too sure about it location though, I suppose it depends what you are in town for. If you want to get to the harbour for some touristy stuff try a 10 minute walk to Darling then jump on a ferry to the Quay.
