Great quirky hotel
Spent 3 nights here in may. Handy location for market street, all the SoMa stuff and great links to the rest of San Francisco. All the staff were friendly and helpful, without exception. But have to agree on the wifi. Rubbish. But it works fine in reception where they have a pc to print your boarding passes and that kind of kerfuffle

Great rooms, but don't plan on wifi.
I love this hotel. I think the rooms are creative and comfortable. The beds and pillows were good. There is a desk with chairs on each side. It was right next to a window. It was quiet, but I always ask for a quiet room (whenver I stay in any city). We have stayed here many times. Parking is an extra $25/day but is easy and safe place to park your car.The area is not the best area, but we have walked around day and night with no problems. I wouldn't advise a women to walk around alone at night, but that goes for many areas in SF. As many others who have reviewed, I will say that the wifi is poor, almost non existent in most rooms. This is very frustrating, since they advertise they have it. So if you are planning on doing research about SF or working, it won't happen. You are given an IT phone number to call, which I did one time, but it took so long, I hung up. It was a hassle. There is a computer downstairs in the lobby. But it is not the same as using your own computer in your room. I do not understand why the hotel has not taken care of this. It has been going on for a few years now and there are many complaints/frustrations in many reviews. Management, why don't you take care of this. This shouldn't be that hard to fix. Other hotels manage to have wifi. I think it would be worth your while to do something about this. I gave this 4 stars because if you don't count on the wifi this is a nice hotel.

Best Feature, Good Decor
If you are looking for a basic and clean place to stay, and don't mind wearing earplugs at night or aren't bothered by noise, this place is for you!The room decor is super cute and is what draws you to this place, but that's about the best thing they have to offer.The wi-fi is free, but it doesn't work AT ALL. The TV in the room has a really bad quality grain to it which deterred me from purchasing/watching a movie in my room. You can hear noise from other bathrooms, and rooms. My room was facing an inner courtyard but other rooms face the street which may add to the noise.They offer a boxes breakfast in the morning that you have to go down and get. It has milk, oj, banana, slightly hard pastry, light strawberry yogurt and coffee and tea are also available along with cereal.I wouldn't stay here again as I felt it was overpriced for the quality of the amenities they offered.

Charming rooms!
Great local, nice rooms. The area is not as bad as other reviews claim. It's a big city, no different than any other big city in America. A very lively neighborhood! Rooms are well appointed, and comfy.

New wallpaper aside, this is a motel.
I have not been this disappointed in a hotel in recent memory. While the hotel looks nice in the glamour shots on all review sites, it is a farce. In reality, this a crummy old motel, with fancy wallpaper and some trendy furniture. I'm sure it's a good business model, since they've taken this same approach with two other "hotels" on the same block.Things that will disappoint you:THE WIFI DOES NOT WORK.If you ask for help they will tell you to call a tech support number. No thanks, I'm on vacation. Nobody on the 4th floor had reliable Internet. I could get a connection that felt like dial-up ONLY if I sat in the chair by the rickety elevator. Even then, basically unusable. I used my smartphone the entire time instead. This is not acceptable in this day and age, especially where your local economy is IT-based.CONVENIENCE STORE BREAKFAST.This is the absolute worst "continental" breakfast I've ever seen. Your breakfast will be in a paper lunchbox that is sitting in the lobby for you to pick up. Inside is a banana, an awful pastry, one yoplait yogurt, one small carton of milk and one small carton of sunny-d style orange juice. This is the same every day. Do not think of this as a "perk," more of a disservice to yourself.NO MICROWAVES.There are no microwaves on the entire premises. You can walk 15 minutes to whole foods to use theirs.I will say, the staff were not rude. They did their job and were reasonably friendly. The trendy decor, shallow as it is, is not done badly. However, there are constant reminders that this is the shell of a motel. Old scummy brass doorknobs & thermostat, cracked-tile bathroom floor and a shower with browning caulk, splintered wood on the bottom of the doors these things all let you know that this is a 1970's Best Western that was gutted and that you overpaid. Oh and if you ask for a refrigerator they will bring you one... A grimy woodgrained one from the motel's storage unit.I will definitely stay at a normal mediocre chain hotel next time. At least the internet will be usable and there will be a buffet style breakfast. This place is just so obviously a sham. Now I know and now you know too.
