Franchised hotel lets down the overall brand
Oh... where should I start? I often use Holiday Inn properties when I'm travelling, both for business and leisure, because I know what I'm going to get. Unfortunately the Manchester Central Park property (which is a franchise), is a huge disappointment. Here's a list of annoyances on my stay - none of them major, but all of which demonstrate that it's the little things that add up to a great stay that this hotel desperately needs to pay attention to...* No bottled or canned Coke at the bar - only postmix (i.e. the stuff on a gun that costs about 25p for 0.5 a litre) - sold for ¿¿3.30 a pint!* Sliding bathroom door detached from bottom runner* Bathroom shelf on the other side of the room to the sink.* Towel rail on the other side of the bathroom to the shower/bath* Shower mixer tap so stiff with lime scale I thought I would need to get help to turn it off* TV with so much interference it was unwatchable* Decor shabby in places* "Double" bed is actually two single beds pushed together with a king size duvet* Whole property surrounded by a 10' security fence and there was broken glass on the road outside in the morning (i.e. Newton Heath is not the safest place to stay).* Room service menu looks like something from a roadside cafe (piece of laminated card), is uninspiring and mediocre.All in all, I'm glad I was paying a corporate rate and not the advertised price...One more point: don't get confused by the name - Central Park is in the northern suburbs and no-where near the centre of Manchester . (not a problem for me - it's close to my offices - but might confuse others).

prison from the outside but room okay inside
Stayed here as I was going to a conference at the Police HQ opposite, this is the only reason. When we drew up in the taxi after a ride through a rather run down part of Manchester it looked like an open prison with large iron fencing all the way around. But once in the room it was not too bad, big comfy bed and choice of pillows. Bathroom was immaculately clean and good hot shower. We wanted to go into Manchester to eat this is a good ten minute ride about ¿¿10 in a cab. One particular member of staff a young man on the front desk was really helpful telling us a great place to eat in town, so thanks to him. For the price ¿¿65 a night it was an okay budget stay.

Average
We recently stayed here for one night over the bank holiday weekend. As it was the bank hol they had put the prices up as had most of the hotels in Manchester. Having paid almost ¿¿125 for one night we were expecting slightly better service than we received. When we entered the reception there was nobody there and we had to wait only a minute or to for the receptionist to appear. She was rather rude and snappy but checked us in and sent us on our way. We got to the room and the key didn't work, so had to treck all they back down just to get more of her attitude. When we got in the room it was fab, couldn't fault a thing. The bathroom was spotless, the beds were comfy, the aircon / heating worked great and the shower was amazing. The hotel location isnt great, it costs around ¿¿7 - ¿¿8 in a taxi to get in to the city centre. When we came back there a young guy on the reception, so we thought we would try our luck with him. He was very pleasant but very badly informed. He couldn't even tell us the check out time (but had a guess at around 10am).The actual hotel is great, however the service we recieved was not! I would not stay here again even if it was half the price.The reception staff need some serious retraining.

NOT best location
room was clean and spacious and did the job it was supposed to. However check-in isnt till 2pm this was a issue as we arrived half 2 and were then told the restaurant wont be able till 6. We had travelled for 3 hours in car and wanted to avoid service station and have proper food. we had to dump are baggage and ask reception to book us a taxi into centre. taxi into print works about ¿¿7.80. staff nice enough people however was little disorganised at the check-in process

Decent budget hotel
This hotel was OK. We only stayed one night for the National Winter Ales festival. Didn't spend much time in the hotel at all. We paid a little extra to get a king-size executive room as the only other standard rooms available according to Hotels.com were smoking rooms. It's quite a walk into town but there's a bus from Oldham road, although if there's a few of you it's cheaper to get a taxi. The rooms were clean, minibar fully stocked. Bar downstairs was a little pricey. Staff helpful and friendly though. We'd stay here again, it's super close to the Ale festival :).
