Good location, good staff
We got a warm welcome from the staff on arrival, check-in with Amber was efficient - then it started to go downhill. We couldn't get into our room with either key, we got another 2, they didn't work either, we then got a young man with a key who did get in and gave us the key with the assurance the lock would be looked at/fixed the next day. We went out for a quick tapas then back to bed except ..... the key and the lock turned so we got the young man back, he got another man then we got another room but without luggage! Amber assured us our luggage would be with us by 7am and, of course, it was. So thanks to the staff it all got sorted smoothly and there were toiletries in the bathroom so at least we could shower. The new room was bigger - 7th floor - and overlooking Broadway - noisy but then I come from a village where you only hear my neighbour's owls at night! I had seen previous reviews about asking for a quieter room but having already moved we couldn't be bothered and each successive night seemed to be quieter (unless the fire department across the block got a shout). The bathroom looked like it could do with an overhaul but was roomy with an excellent shower, loads of hot water and good lighting. The room was large, 2 very comfortable queen beds with great pillows, a closet with iron, ironing board, umbrella, laundry and shoe clean bags and a complimentary safe - with our history of locks we tested it out first before putting anything in it. Towels were plentiful and changed daily if you left them on the floor. The coffee bar - which I thought was open throughout - is only open til 11am. A kettle would be a nice idea as there was a fridge in the room in the tv/drawer unit. I would certainly return to the Belleclaire, it's an excellent location to access Viand Cafe for breakfast on 75th and the Subway on 72nd where the express takes you into Times Square in minutes. Cabs are easily hailed on Broadway too.

lacking so much
Well the pictures were nice and the location had promise...but it was all downhill from there.Room was nicely appointed the best part was the closet - it was huge! The bathroom was small and I would imaging freezing in the winter - it looked grimy and wasn't helped by the dark green tiles. The space round the door is wide enough for the hotel staff to slip you bill into you room. This same space allows light in and lots and lots of noise. I found it hard to sleep due to the fact that the person in the adjoining room was talking on her phone - not that she was shouting, it is just that there in no sound proofing and the gaps around the door let her conversation fill my room.She was busy with her conversations until 3am!!There is no bar in the lobby, so sense of community - just a small noise room at the end of ride in an very small elevator....Finally, their internet service did not work, a temporary matter for sure but is summed up my impression - nice pictures but not much else.

Not quite ready for prime time
I wish I could write a better review of this West Side Hotel. The location is wonderful and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful.However, they suffer from recurring elevator problems. We stayed two days and one elevator was down for part of the first day and both were down the morning of the second day.The rooms have been renovated but are small. The full beds are really too small for two adults to sleep comfortably. On our second day, the housekeeping folks failed to make up our room and it became a scramble to get ready for the theater as the room was being serviced.

Nice Hotel, OK Location
My boyfriend and I visited NYC together for our first time and booked a room here back in January. The lobby was goregous and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed there, not like tourists. The renevations that had been mentioned in previous posts seemed to be complete. Our rooms were comfortable and clean. If this hotel were picked up and placed in another location, I would definately stay here again, however we felt it was a little far from Times Sqaure and other downtown attractions. There are some museums nearby and its also close the upper part of Central Park. Our first day there we walked to Times Square and it was 30+ blocks. There are subway stations within 2-3 blocks in each direction of the hotel, which was convenient, and it probably took about 20 mins to ride it to Times Sq. There were a few cool bars nearby also. Overall, we had a great time and have no complaints about the hotel. In the future though, we would like to be closer to Downtown NYC and Times Square.

I stay here 5-10 days a month
I love this hotel, this is the only place I'll stay. Where do I start. Its a beautiful historical building. Renovated lobby, beautiful, fits the historical feel. There's restaurants, the park, museums, everything close by. Getting a cab takes 10 seconds. It's quite at night. The staff is beyond friendly, every single one of them remembers me every time I come back... And that was only after 2 stays. The rooms are nice, even the small rooms aren't cramped compared to "small" in NY... you can move around. Theres a good sized closet, desk & a safe! I normally get a queen room. Sometimes they'll give me a bigger room & I could exercise in there if I wanted haha, very large for not having a suite, rare in NY. Floors have laminate wood, which I love, much cleaner than carpet. The toiletries are Co Bigelow. Every room has a mini fridge. I had an upgraded queen last week and there were 2 bottles of h2o, dean & deluca chocolate bar & truffle pretzels complimentary in the room. Fabulous. The price is very reasonable for what you get. Cheap compared to NY standards. That's the biggest selling point. I've stayed in $400 a night hotels in NY that were so bad I had to leave. Here, I've gotten rates under $200 before! They also let you check out at 1pm instead of 11 or noon. And there's been a couple times where I had to cut my last day short and let them know literally at 12:30pm and was out by 1pm & they didn't charge me for that last day, even though I had reserved it. The only reason I didn't give them a perfect score is because the rooms that are far from the boiler room can take 10-25 mins to get hot water in the shower. I understand as it's an old building. One room I had I never really had hot water, it was lukewarm. They were very apologetic and actually credited me back half of my stay! I didn't even ask them to. That is customer service and what you expect from a boutique hotel.... They actually want & care about your business. Once they update the hot water situation there would be absolutely nothing wrong with Hotel Belleclaire.
