2nd Time's the Charm!
After not enjoying my first experience so much at the New Yorker, the Guest Services emailed me their apologies and hoped I would give them another try. I did and it was a much better experience.The front desk was very amiable and check-in was efficient. I had a very nice room with a view of the river. Like last time, the beds are super comfortable and the hotel is very quiet at night.The location is great if you want to be central to both uptown and downtown. I was able to walk easily to the theatres for shows at night, while also being very close to Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen which I explored more this time.The only issue that the hotel really can't get around is the age of the bathrooms. They are clean and efficient, but dated and there isn't a lot, if any, counter space and no fans etc. But it adds to the quaintness of the hotel, and if you are wanting something more modern, then the hotel probably wouldn't be to your liking anyways.All in all, I'm really happy that I decided to give the hotel another chance, and I would most definitely stay there again next time I'm in town!

The best location midtown
Reception staff were efficient on check in. I had emailed ahead for a room with a safe, this had been organised. We asked for a high floor & got 27, so everything was good.It's the position of this hotel that is the primary consideration. Recommended. Yes I would certainly stay here again. Close to Macys, Empire State, Times Square, Broadway, Madison Square garden.Great. Thanks to everyone.

great location
the New Yorker was a fab hotel in a great location, we decided to take the air train from JFK instead of a taxi to save some dollars and we arrived at Penn station quite easily and outside we found the hotel as soon as we came up the steps! the hotel staff were brilliant, we had a nice, clean room, on 31st floor, overlooking the Hudson river - the view at night was great.. and we were even asked if we would like a coffee maker sending up. The hotel is close to Macy's, Empire State and we walked to a lot of the sights around and would not hesitate to stay here again.

PERFECT LOCATION
We stayed in the New Yorker Hotel for four nights and found the hotel very good,clean,nice staff,great diner attached that is not expensive and the portions are very big.The location is excellent Madison Square,Penn Station are right across the street and you can see the Empire Building from your room if your lucky enough.All the other tourist attractions are easily within walking distance, The only place we got transport to was the Twin Towers Remembrance Garden and the Statue of Liberty which has to be reached by water taxi which was a very good trip,Michael was very entertaining. We went to the ice hockey at Madison Square Gardens which we would highly recommend.We booked the shuttle transfer at the hotel for our return journey back to JFK it cost 26 dollars per person and we were picked up at the exact time as arranged with no problems We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Excellent Experience
Oh sure, I've read the bad rap this hotel has gotten. Well, it's not true. On our arrival, the front desk and concierge were very friendly and helpful (good start). The room was very clean with a great view (another plus). Nothing fancy but functional and clean and cozy. Yes, the water temp can be unreliable. My friend endured a cold shower and when she conveyed her displeasure we were immediately upgraded to a fantastic Suite on the 39th floor. Housekeeping did a great job (tipping them is always my custom). The location is Mid-town and of course lots of mainstream eateries in the area such as McDonalds, T.G.I.F., Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and a handy 24 hour drug store across the street. Not my thing so of course we went out of the area for great dining in Hell's Kitchen area. The lobby is expansive and Tic Toc was fine for a filling breakfast before venturing out of Mid-Town into the City. By the way, using the complimentary wi-fi is NOT slow so no need to upgrade to premium for a charge. I would definitely return to The New Yorker hotel again.
