Failed to provide prepaid room!

We had booked and *prepaid* two rooms with a colleague. When we arrived, we were informed that they would give us a single room to share because they were out of rooms. They gave us the second room after 1 night, but *no* reimbursement for the first night, and they made us pay city tax on top of that on checkout.The WiFi doesn't work, it connects for about 3 seconds and then disconnects, it's practically off.The neighborhood is shady, there was a vandalism just outside the hotel the first night, we walked out to police interviewing passers-by.I was grossed out when I found a dirty towel I'd left on the floor, hanging again in the bathroom.Breakfast is OK.

Very rude staff - don't stay here!

The staff here is not only inefficient, they are also quite arrogant and rude! Especially a tall man with spectacles (even more than the others). It doesn't matter what the rest of the hotel was like when you get such arrogant and rude behavior from the front desk staff.I must mention that the hallways on the floor we were on were extremely worn out and they had broken doors of the hallway closets that were simply leaning against the closet making it both ugly and risky!

Budget accommodation near by the city centre of Brussels

Walking distance from railway station ¿¿¿Midi¿¿¿ with direct connection to Charleroi International Airport. Hotel is bit older and worn, but friendly staff makes it pleasant and cozy. Recently renovated social room in the ground floor provides place for meetings and games (billiard table, darts and several table-games are available). Breakfast included in price is very acceptable, quite good selection and instant supplies when st. runs out. Dining room is limited, but during the summer period a garden terrace provides maybe even bigger sitting place than inside the lobby area. Rooms and bathrooms are small but clean and equipped with standard furnishing. Central heating / air-conditioning has limitations, be ready for lower temperatures especially during the winter (in our roam it was solved by the additional radiator which was OK, but too noisy). The Hotel surrounding and ¿¿¿locals¿¿¿ correspond with the area of wider city centre and metro (subway) station located near by, but no jeopardy was detected during evenings or nights of our 3-day long stay.

Below average, best avoided

Just returned from a weekend staying at the Floris Ustel Midi and was not all that impressed. Ok, the location is good for Midi train station, but the surrounding area is very uncomfortable at night, as I had the unpleasant experience of walking back to the hotel after leaving some friends due to illness. All the locals appear north African in appearance and are hanging around outside the bars smoking in a very imposing nature, and being a tourist you stand out very easily and could easily be a target. A friend had an attempted mugging not far from the hotel the same night I walked back alone, unluckily for the potential mugger, he picked on the wrong person as my friend can look after himself. The hotel itself is clean, but there was no toilet paper or soap in the public toilets, this was not rectified even after we reported it to reception. Breakfast was average, nothing more. My biggest complaint was the heat in the room, even with radiator being off the whole of the time we were there, the room was like a sauna. This was made worse by the fact we could not open the window due to the volume of the traffic outside.Best avoided in my opinion.

To be avoided

I have read other reviews and had to check it was the same hotel. This hotel came up on eurostar website and had reasonable reviews. It is certainly reasonably low cost and near the Brussels midi station where the Eurostar departs and arrives.The receptionist had poor people skill and watched us go to the wrong lift. There are two different lifts depending on the wing.The room was clean but so cold we had to sleep in our clothes. The wall heater would turn itself off after about 5mins.The toilet flush broke in the morning . We reported it but did not receive a word of apology on checking out. Just a surly demand for a city tax. Breakfast was adequate although the back door kept opening causing a draught. The map they advertise is a photocopy which was indecipherable. Reading other reviews makes me wonder if this hotel needs a change of management to get it back on track. Sorry but the worst hotel I have stayed in Europe.
