Avoid this place if you can
We stayed at Franklin Manor in February 2013 after seeing good photos and booking on line. It didn't have the restaurant it advertised but worst of all, our room was absolutely filfthy. Crumbs on carpet, bed sheets had been slept in and even blood stains on the pillow. Dark, dingy room, cracked washbasin in bathroom and no plug!! This was so disappointing after a long drive from Hobart to Strahan. I'ts had its day and was the worst place I've ever stayed in.No longer looked after by its owners, it is now owned by a consortium and poor management on an ad hoc basis. Couldn't get away quickly enough.

Excellent Stay
Franklin Manor, built in the 1880s exudes comfort. The rooms are large but cosy with ensuite and bay window overlooking gorgeous gardens. The entrance is right on the manors carpark and again, it spells cosy as soon as you enter with a warm inviting fire place. We stayed here for 3 nights and were made so welcome by our hosts with ample continental breakfast choices and any-time cappuccinos at our disposable.

Welcoming
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. Room had everything we needed. Great spaces to unwind in the evening around the fire. We thought it would be a perfect place for weddings or host a murders. The electricity went off a one point, but the person on reception kept calm and informed us that the whole town was out. It returned in an hour... No drama needed.

Quite location
Stayed here for 2 nights the room could do with a upgrade no air conditioning there was only one person on duty he did the booking in and served breakfast in the morning really needing someone else to help out.Continental breakfast was OK, there was also an honesty bar if you wanted a drink you help yourself to it and put it on a tab. Free wi-fi is available in the house if you are near the front we managed from our room which was close to the desk.Merc

Stately lady
Franklin Manor is set on the shores of Macquarie Harbour with excellent views from most rooms and an elegant old garden. it is not modern, but it has an aura and a feeling of a touch of old fashioned class, unlike the sterility of some other places. We stayed with a group of 11 friends and found the management extremely helpful in providing opportunities and spaces for us to socialize. Our room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable and the continental breakfast more than adequate. It is in a quiet quiet location within walking distance of the centre of Strahan, the Gordon River Cruise and the Wilderness Railway and the excellent Risby Cove restaurant. Franklin Manor has recently had a change of management and although it has a little way to go before it reaches the excellent standard it was a couple of years ago, it is still good value.
