We had a get away to here and so had no real expectations but we were very pleased with the accomodation size and we were in the side if the pool which was brill. The furnishings need so upgrading but don't let that put you off. The resort is within walking of the main town if you don't have a car - I would recommend one as we discovered some real treats. The restaurants are all very reasonable and friendly and Zanzibars (next resort down) is a real find with very good beer and food prices. The resort pool was ok to dip your toes in to cool off but too cold to swim in, shame as it was a lovely pool and kept very tidy. The maid service was second to none - there only seemed to be the one but she was quick, thorough and friendly. In my opinion this resort would never seem overcrowded even in the hight of the season (we went in March) as there isn't that many bungalows sharing the pool. The location for this small gated complex of 30 very spacious and comfortable apartments couldn't be better - on a small peninsular guaranteeing that every balcony has a view of the sea. The pool area, where there are plenty of sunbeds, is sheltered from the wind, which was quite lively on a couple of days during our fortnight's holiday, leading to some stormy seas and spectacular waves. During the other twelve days we enjoyed wall-to-wall sunshine and it got very hot poolside. We stayed on a self-catering basis, as we like to be able to explore different restaurants during our holidays. As a result of our Easyjet flight arriving forty minutes early we checked in well before noon but the staff at the Barcelo Castillo Resort Reception (about 100 metres from the apartments) could not have been friendlier or more helpful and allowed us to have our room immediately. Don't bother with booking a transfer to and from the airport, as it is only 10 minutes away and will cost only about 12-15 euros by taxi. Our room was huge and very luxurious, two flat screen TVs - on which we could even get BBC - and very clean. We hired a safe in the room for 3 euros a day. We had two large beds pushed together and the fittings were of a high standard, but just let down on occasions by the quality of workmanship - and we had a large balcony overlooking the pool and the Atlantic. Our fellow guests at the complex were mostly Scandinavian - many of whom indulged in daily aquarobic exercises in the pool, led by a very enthusiastic - and quite loud - young lady. The apartments are situated about 10 minutes walk from the restaurants, shops and nightlife of the resort of Caleta de Fuste - just far enough to build up an appetite. Eating places we could recommend include Fado Rock - where a musician sitting in an old Mazda car provides good live music, El Patio - where you will be tempted by a free glass of Cava to enter and enjoy some excellent live music - and Gambrinus, where we shared the excitement and banter of the Real Madrid v Man united Champions league game with the friendly waiters and locals. In those restaurants we usually chose excellent fillet steaks, which cost about 15 euros, but we also enjoyed Chinese food at the restaurant called simply China and Indian food at 2fusion2 (on the same street as El Patio and Fado Rock). During our holiday we also visited Corralejo and Jandia, but were happy that we had based our stay where we did. We would highly recommend these apartments - a perfect location for getting some much-needed Winter sunshine (even in deepest February) and so accessible from UK.

i booked this on short notice and it wasn't my first choice..but for the dates June 20th it became the only choice!. But i kept an open mind even after reading reviews of which there were few. I swapped a timeshare apartment thru Interval Intl. I dont think this 'complex' should be in the catologue anymore, its not upto the high standard of we are paying for, esp when u add in the booking fee of ¿¿125.00. Their securiy of the site is in question.. opportunist thefts..keep all doors and windows shut & locked is your greeting at reception. 3 Bungalows were burgaled in the week we stayed and the bar was broken into and damaged.. This has been going on for years...so other timeshare owners say and yes a high fence was installed. the owners have played it down because no one has been hurt...one lady said..it was her fault she left key in lock..they pushed it out and somehow opened the door, she heard them in her unit going thru her bag but she pretended to be asleep until they left...scared witless. One day someone will challange them and it could be nasty. Not the best feeling, TheCastillo Club- Lakes is quite seculded up the hill, the walk up from the town is up thru about half a dozen other complexes, of which were empty, infact it was like a ghost town up on the hill, bars & shops boarded up meant u had to walk or taxi into the main resort for a good selection of food or entertainment at night, (no train) I like a walk but to do the hill, every day to the beach, which was lovely and the prom area has been done well, & then go back down at night, well it just became abit .of drag . The little train was unreliable but taxi's were about 3 euro back, So we tried out a what was open on the hill..sad really, hardly anyone eating in them, the entertainment was poor, but they tried, just its hard to compete with the town. Now all the new hotels are along the front most A/I and the newer complexes also by the town & beach it has killed the trade for the Lakes unit, which prob 30years ago were top notch..but not now. we could've booked a last minute really cheap holiday here for the cost of our airfare so not the best swap we've made. For those who use Interval Intl to swap, the Barcelo hotel complex, is far superior and right adj to beach, prom and the town very well landscaped, many pools and plenty going on to amuse the kids...just limited availabilty!IF (which i doubt) ever went back thats where i'd stay. We did hire a car with 'new friends' for 2 days and got to see other beaches, coves & pretty villages, just unfortunate that the 'dust cloud' from the Sahara hung over the island for 4 days, so views from mountains was impossible, we were just unlucky, and as the notorious winds calmed down (become a gentle breeze) the heat rose & rose to 42, we tried to make this a good holiday, but i just wanted to come home. Sorry its not like me as i like the sun and new ventures, the up side ...made some lovely friends.

All I can say is wonderful, food, accommodation, couldn't have asked for better

I was here with a party of 5 girls for a long weekend as a big birthday celebration. The accommodation is fairly basic, but the apartments are clean and have everything you need. We were warned about theft and were careful to make sure we locked doors and windows and used the safe. As we were there in February the complex was very quiet and the bar was not open. The apartments are a bit of a walk from the centre of the town, but we walked there and back in the evenings and felt perfectly safe. Didn't see any cockroaches, lots of cats though. All in all, not 5 star accommodation but not too awful either! We'd certainly return.
