A: Trip Protection and Trip Protection Plus are both low-cost insurance programs that Hotwire offers through a partner provider, Access America. Trip Protection is available when you make a flight, hotel, or car booking individually on our site. Trip Protection Plus is only available when you make a package booking on our site (e.g., booking your flight and hotel as one booking). In addition, Trip Protection Plus provides more coverage -- including insurance for medical and dental emergencies, baggage and travel delays.
Both programs, which are a combination of travel insurance benefits and emergency hotline services, provide trip cancellation/interruption coverage. They cover unexpected events such as medical emergencies, strikes, natural disasters, and bad weather. Trip Protection and Trip Protection Plus do not cover change of plans due to non-emergency situations.
Hotwire package fares do not include the insurance fee. You may choose to buy Trip Protection or Trip Protection Plus during the booking process, or you can decide later and purchase coverage up until the day before your departure. A: All Trip Protection or Trip Protection Plus claims and questions are handled by Access America. Completing a claim form takes just minutes. To begin the process, call a claims specialist toll-free at 1-800-334-7525. Please note that Access America may request information from you -- such as travel documents, proof of payments, etc. After your documentation is received and Access America determines that you have a payable claim, you should receive payment within 5 to 7 business days.
