Q: What is an electronic ticket and how do I use it?

A: An electronic ticket — more commonly referred to as an e-ticket — is stored in the airline's reservation system and therefore eliminates the need for a printed airline ticket. Since all of the ticketing information is stored electronically, you will only receive an email confirmation. This confirmation, sent to the email address you provide during registration, will contain the round-trip details of your flights.

When traveling, remember to bring a printout of the confirmation page (from our site) or a copy of your confirmation email. At the airport, you'll need to check in with the airline with a government issued photo ID (e.g., driver's license, passport) to receive your boarding pass. Many airlines will also allow you to check in online 24 hours prior to your departure to obtain a boarding pass. See the individual airline's website for details.

Q: Will my ticket be paper or electronic?

A: Hotwire generally issues electronic tickets, which are stored in the airline's reservation system and therefore eliminates the need for an airline ticket printed on paper. Since all of the electronic ticketing information is stored in the airline's system, you will only receive an email confirmation. International destinations may require travel documents such as a current passport, proof of citizenship, or an entry or transit visa.

For U.S. passport requirements, application forms, where to conveniently apply, and other passport and international travel information, visit the U.S. Department of State's Passport Services at http://www.travel.state.gov.

If our airline partner cannot issue an e-ticket, we'll send you a paper ticket via one-day delivery as long as you have provided a U.S. delivery address in the "Delivery Information" area. Hotwire currently cannot ship paper tickets to a non-U.S. address. If you cannot provide a U.S. delivery address, your booking will not be completed.

Hotwire typically sends paper airline tickets via Federal Express next-business day delivery. When necessary, some tickets may be sent via FedEx Priority or Saturday delivery. If you delivery address is a P.O. box, the tickets will be sent via the U.S. Postal Service via Express Mail. Next-day delivery is available to most destinations.

Note: One-day delivery is generally based on business days. For example, if you book a ticket on Saturday night (which is not considered a business day), you may not receive the ticket until Tuesday.

Q: If I receive paper tickets, when and how will they arrive?

A: Paper airline tickets will be sent to the delivery address you specify on the Billing page of the booking process. Since you won't know until after you book whether your ticket is paper or electronic, you may want to consider entering the delivery address for the passenger if it is someone other than yourself.

Q: Where can I have paper tickets delivered?

A: You may specify any address you wish. Just enter your desired delivery address on the Billing page. You may enter a delivery address that is different from the billing address. (The billing address is the address where your credit card statement is sent.) If paper tickets are issued, they will be sent to the delivery address specified.
