Q: What is a credit card ID number?

A: It's a security code issued with all credit cards that is used as an additional means of protection against fraud; it helps us validate your booking. (The non-embossed ID number is located on either the front or back of the credit card.)

You will be required to enter the ID number on the Billing page. For your protection, the ID number cannot be saved in your Hotwire account.

Q: Can I pay for someone else's package using my own credit card?

A: Yes. Please note that the card billing address must match the address on record with the credit card company where your statements are sent.

Airlines will not require you to show the credit card used to make the booking at time of check-in. For car rentals at check-in, the driver will need to present his/her own driver's license and credit card, which should both match the driver's name (even if you paid for the car rental reservation on the Hotwire site.), The traveler will need at least $200 in available funds on their own credit card to use as a deposit at check-in. If the traveler will be presenting a check debit card rather than a credit card at time of pick up, the car rental company will place a hold on your card for the deposit amount, and these funds will not be available until the car is returned.

Note that many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when the vehicle is picked up, and rental will be denied. International car rental companies accept credit cards only and require the traveler to have as much as $1,000 in available funds on the card.

Q: Can I use a check debit card to pay for my booking?

A: You may pay for your booking with a debit card showing a Visa or MasterCard logo. Your bank will deduct the booking amount from your checking account balance. Note that there are some restrictions on the use of debit cards, such as limitations on the number of daily transactions and a set daily withdrawal limit. Some hotels may not accept debit cards as a deposit for incidental charges such as room service and parking.

Hotwire.com does not accept prepaid or 'stored value' cards for payment, including those showing a MasterCard or Visa logo.

Note that while you may pay for your car rental booking with a debit card, many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when you pick up the vehicle, and you will be denied rental. International car rental companies accept only credit cards and require that you have as much as $1,000 in available funds on your card. For domestic car rental companies, you need to have at least $200 available on your credit card or-for those companies who accept them-your debit card.

Q: Why am I being asked for a password to use my credit card?

A: Hotwire supports Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, which are security technologies that authenticate your Visa or MasterCard and ensure that only the authorized cardholder is placing the order. If you are signed up with VbV or MasterCard® SecureCodeTM , then your password is required by the bank that issued your card. Hotwire does not require you to sign up, but when we request authorization from your bank, they may require you to do so.

Hotwire Customer Care is unable to assist you with credit card verification questions. Please contact your card issuer if you are having trouble entering your password.

Q: If I select PayPal as my payment method, how will I be charged?

A: You can choose to pay with your PayPal account balance, or you can select another payment method such as instant bank account transfer, eCheck or credit card. Once you select PayPal as your payment method, the PayPal system will walk you through the payment process.

If you do not have a PayPal Account, and do not wish to create one, you will need to enter another method of payment to complete your booking.
